It kidn of depends on you. Do you have to watch calories? Do you match your carbs to your insulin? Do you need to gain or lose weight, or watch cholesterol? You can eat everything from celery and salsa to sandwiches and crackers, but it kind of depends on what your needs are. My CDE's here always went for the 50/50 plate. Whatever you put on one side which is high carb or calorie, you have to match on the other side with low carb or calorie. It really all depends on your situaiton though......and what your doctors or CDE might suggest...... |

Here's a good idea that might work for you. On the One touch (johnson and johnson) web site, there is a free club for Gold Card members. The last time I looked they had menu planners where you could indicate your needs and then it would spit out some ideas for meals. http://www.lifescan.com/ (Actually it's the Lifescan web site.) Look up at the top, look at the Gold program. I believe it is in there. Let me know if you cannot find it. There are other such menu programs on the web but they cost money. Last time I checked this one out, it was free and worked well. I hope it is still there. I dont have time to check this minute, but let me know if you need help. |

Rather than focusing so much on trying to match your food to your insulin, you might be better off with a plan that matches your insulin to your food intake. It would require more shots, but there's a lot more flexibility, and most people have better control. |

Glad you mantioned that! That has always been the way I handle things. I never know if I will have any appetite to eat any particular meal. If I didn't wait until I was preparing my food, and was certain I would eat it, I would be needing an awful lot of candy, to couteract all the lows! So once I am sure I can eat, then and only then, do I decide what to do about my insulin. Lately, I've been doing Lean Cuisine for lunch. Not because of the low calories, but because they are SO effortless and much more nutritionally balanced than anything I could do! Just pop it in the nuker, and off you go! Easy as that! And that is about all I can cope with mentally these days. And all the energy I have for food prep. sheryl |
