Being a diabetic for 47 years and a type-1 I did think I should make my entrance maybe on this board here. On 5 needles per day and up to 10 times testing daily. Several bad complications I do enjoy but are still alive and kicking. People who have often that they go "under" with insulin lows and go so far as not being able to drink or eat could get into bigger trouble if someone would force it on them. In the time, now years ago before monitors for the glucose, I made it a habit to go "Under" often. My Johanna, a smart cookie from way back, made sure we always had a pot with corn syrup handy, even with the top unscrewed. If a person is deep into a low it is better to just use the fingers in the syrup pot (Wow that stuff is sticky, could keep your hair in place just like dippidy doo (SP)) and smear some syrup in the inside of the cheek. That really will do the job and may safe you a trip to the ER. Don't forget to turn the person on it's side (first) so nothing will leak into the troat. Just watch that the person has eaten or the jaw may suddenly close on your fingers>>>> LOL.
These lows I had happen several times before the bloodsugar monitors were around. On time in my unconcious state I fought the two ambulance drivers so badly my bands that were to keep me on the stretcher broke. They kept me in the hospital for two weeks, not for the recovery from the shock, but my back muscles were ruined.
I thought let me write a happy story for you because the sunshine is out this morning. LOL.

I've not been on for long, lately. MSN has been so difficult, or the family interrupts my computer time. I really appreciate your advice on the corn syrup. I'd never heard that one before. |
