Hello,

Apologies in advance as it's been a long time since I've logged on, but need help.

Need to know if anyone has had a direct impact of being under so much stress (work / personal / whatever) other than BG control.  Within the last 30 days I have had to start Zoloft due to Panic / Anxiety Attacks and Thursday I was in the ER due to one because I thought I was going to have a heart attack!  Doctor indicated that this is affecting my kidneys, in the long run not to mention other things.  I know it is harmful, but can anyone really say they had something diversly affect them due to something like this?  Please advise.

I have a very stressful job that has eaten up my life for 9 1/2 months.  I went on the pump back in July just to try and get a handle on my sugars. (Pump is great!) but still have LOTS of sugars 225+ due to the stress.  I'd say at least half of my sugars if not more are in that range.

PS.  My job is very aware that I am Type I to no avail they keep piling on the work and pressing me!  Any advice?  I can't go on like this but am the family provider......?

Thanks for any input!

Sorry to hear from you under such unfortunate circumstances.  But welcome back!
It isn't stress that is hurting your kidneys.  It is the high sugars.  As you know, high sugars can lead to complications (kidneys, circulation, eyes, etc.)  You must get a handle on your stress, or look for another job.  You can "explain" away the high sugars all you want ...but it doesn't matter what you SAY.  Your body will still suffer the consequenses of the glucose in your body.  Yes...stress can cause your sugars to be more challenging to control.   But in the end, it doesn't matter WHY your sugars are high...just that they ARE.
I'm guessing that your boss doesn't care that you are T1 or whatever else causes you problems.  Only that s/he gets a good days work from you.   Your diabetes has no bearing on your job...well controlled diabetes should not impact on a person's work.  From your boss' perspective, if you are unable to do the work, go elsewhere.  Sounds harsh, but a job is not owed to anyone, and doesn't change to suit you...you have to adapt to suit it.  Work is like that.
I hope and pray that the Zoloft allows you to de-stress and cope with you job as it is.  And with less stress, I hope those sugars come into better control.  The pump should help, too.  Good luck, and keep us posted, please!  HUGS!  sheryl

welcome back BabyC, ditto on what Sheryl said..got to get those sugars uncontrolled. It may be best that you find a less stressful job. I know that can be difficult ..there can be so much stress in any job these days. Are you watching your diet and drinking lots of water to flush your kidneys out ? Hope things get better for you soon, please let us know how your doing.

Thank you both for your input.  I know easier said than done when it comes jobs and stress.  Unfortunately, I'm the bread winner with the benefits by a mile.  2 Days ago I guess they realized that I wasn't all that well and finally decided to try and help....go figure after 9 months of complaining. I figured someone took the liberty to tell them, not to mention my hospital return to work letter.

One thing I haven't been able to shake is the shakes.....any ideas?

I've been shaking  (like a constant low blood sugar) for 11 days straight now.....

Not a side effect of the Zoloft either.

I have a lot of problems controling my blood sugars with stress, especially if it involves one of my panic attacks. I used to work in an inbound call center taking technical calls for computers. It is so much stress on me that I landed in the hospital a few months after being in the hospital for drinking and getting DKA. That was in July 2007.

As for your job, it is their duty to comply with the Americans Disability Act but sometimes they don't and I learned that quite quickly. I lost my job right after the hospital incident but they didn't specify it was that but I knew that it was.
