I'm so fustered that I'm ready to throw in the towel.
I'm on the insulin pump and recieving alot of insulin during the day. My times are: 12am - 5 u/h; 6am 3.8 u/h; 2pm 3 u/h; 6p 4.5 u/h; 8pm 5.5 u/h. They were working for awhile and then everything just changed.
I was actually called in from my doctor to see the endro at work cause someone had said I was having issues. Well, news goes really fast whe you work for a hospital, and believe that one of my co-workers had said something and it got to the diabetic educator and my endro.
I'm having issues of running to the bathroom alot and the quantity was alot, was having issues in going when I was sleeping (sorry, it's embarressing enough).
I work nights, so getting to appointments is hard. I had a few appointments made with the endro, but ended up missing them. Which I know isn't a good excuse.
Went to see the endro, the diabetic team was all there. My appointment was suppose to be 1 hr, but ended up to be close to 3 hours. Walked out just drained, and tones of information just bonbarded me.
The doctor wants to fit me with a sensor for 3 days to get an accruate idea of what is going on with my blood sugars and readjust my insulin pump. He thinks I need more insulin for my Basal. My insulin sensitivity is 10; Carb Ratio is 5 units, but he thinks that it needs to go up. By the time I have 5 carb choices, I'm at 25 units of insulin at a shot and can't override the insulin pump if I'm needing more. So the educator is looking at getting information from MedTronic on how to override the settings, or looking into a new pump. MedTronic is suppose to come out with a new pump that will deliver more insulin for those that need it. But when that will happen, is another question.
I have talked to the endro about getting the sensors that watch blood sugars, but he said that they are spendy. Even though I have good insurance through work, Most of my pay check goes already out for medical expenses, and getting really tired of it.
I had shown my team my spots and told them they hurt. When I take off the infusion sets, I sometimes have a white hard circle where the insulin was going in. I'm to change the site every 1.5 days due to amount of insulin going in. Medtronic or my insruance matter of fact has a fit of having to order supplies all the time. But Dr.'s orders is 1.5 days due to amount of insulin going to site.
Same with the port, where it is, I get round red circle spots where the infusion set was. So I was given some samples to try to see if that will solve the issue, plus had switched over to Novolog on the pump. It has been one day so far and my sugars have not once left the 260 - 311 spot. Out of 300 units I so far have used up to 274 units of insulin, half the time I had on humalog. I feel the Novolog isn't doing anything at all cause my sugars haven't gone down, but up.
What is going on????
Before this, I was taking Lantus 240 units 3 times a day, and multiple shots of humalog. About 14 - 18 shots a day.
I've heard your body getting use to drugs, but does it also get use to insulin and no longer works? I just feel like giving up. We had switched to Novolog due to the endro said that its easier and alot more friendlier that the humalog. Right now it's only a trial basis to see how it works. Right now, it's not working.
I am so fustered!!!!!!!!!!!!
