I am the wife of a diabetic. He was diagnosed type two, but has not taken any meds for about 18 months. He is unemployed and without insurance. He also does not take care of his diet. He eats whatever he wants. I am wondering if there are specific symptoms that would show that he may now be type one.
The symptoms for Type 1 are weight loss, extreme thirst, extreme urination, plus others. Is your husband losing weight, etc. Also if he starts complaining of stomach pains and has trouble breathing, call 911. I don't have insurance either and use a local teaching hospital with a Diabetic Clinic and get everything for free. If you are near any large teaching hospitals or clinics talk with them and ask about financial assistance. Another name is Charity Care. I can't say for sure that your husband is Type 1 or Type 2. Since he has not taken his medications, there is no way to tell if they are working. I am sorry you are going through this. Sending (((HUGS))) your way.
Thank you for the information. I'm not dure if he is losing weight or not. I thought he may have but I've not asked him aboutit. It certainly hasn't been dramatic weight loss. I do want to look into othe options for obtaining meds.
