Hey everyone, I was just curious as to what age you all were when you (or you children) were diagnosed. For the record I was 4, I'm now 16. Thank you everyone! Love forever and always, Erin. |

Eryka ... so sorry to hear about your son.
I am just so happy that treatments are as advanced as they are now..
and the cure will come for his age group.
Think positive.

Thanks Annette....I've tried to respond here for three days, but nothing posts....we'll see if this one does. Alec has taught me so much about living life to the fullest. He doesn't let this disease stop him from doing what he wants....and I've learned that I have no excuse for taking each day for granted. I admire all of you who have lived with this condition for so long, and have been successful in life. I pray my son grows up to be just as strong as everyone here. |

I had just turned 17. The night after the First Football game I end up in the ER. There they found my appendix might need to be removed. Great, only, they found the Diabetes, to get the numbers down they started 10 days of 1200cal. diet and insulin. Once the numbers were low enough, they removed my appendex and sent me home. Along with a ton of information. Having never heard of this thing, diabetes. Dianne |

My son was diagnosed at 17yrs. He a school friend had decide to rent a apartment after he graduate. They were both working and I just new they would be moving back home. My sister who is a RN and visiting their new placed called me up and says you know Mel has been vomiting and we think he has gotten some bad fast food. I didn't know that much about diabetes at the time myself and I just ask is there any thing else going on. My sister the RN states he is drinking a lot of water. I told her go ahead and take him to the hospital he is still cover under my insurance. He's level was up to 1000. They were shock he actual walked into the hospital. While he was going thru all the lessons and learning how to care for himself, his friend brought him a subway sandwich and Dr. Pepper because my son told him he was so hungry. His levels shot back up just as they had got them down, the nurse didn't know what happen.. He was very embarrassed about that. |
