I have type 2 diabetes. My doctor put me on byetta and  i have tried taking it, but  it makes me feel sick in my stomach.  They say this will go away.  Does this feeling go away and how long does it take.

Thanks
Donnaa

Hi Donnaa!
I'm a type 1 so have no personal experience with Byetta but there are many members here on it and some had problems with their tummy. I believe for some it did indeed go away as the body gets accustomed to it...
Hope some who have taken it will respond and share...
You might check out this thread here and read what some have said about their personal experience with it...
Hope it gets better for you quickly and helps to improve your numbers!
Keep smiling,
Cuddles

Whoops forgot to leave the board.. PS could you please enlarge your font size to a 5  perhaps? Due to just older age and also damage done to eyes from Diabetes there are many here who would like to read your messages but really can't too well with the standard font size MSN gives us.. thanks so much!

Donna I was on it for a while, and yes it made me feel sick in my stomach too. But it will pass in about a week. Than you will notice weight loss. For me it was 8 lbs others lost a lot more. For me it didn’t work too well on my sugars so my Dr took me off and put me on insulin. But for many it did work. Helped keep the sugar level down plus the weight loss .So don’t give up on it just yet..it may work for you.Let us know how you do on it.

Have no personel experience with Byetta but know at east 4 people using it inconjunction with an oral med and all claim that it works very well and have lost some weight.  My daughter and 2 other friends did mention some stomach discomfort but that went away in a short time.

Hi Donnaa
I've been on Byetta for 3 months, I get sick at the stomach ocasionally. I lost 6 pounds. The Byetta helps when I take it as prescribed. I was off for 3 weeks because I didn't have the money to refill. Back on it now and my appetite is under control again.

I've been on Byetta for a little over 3 years and it has helped a lot. The stomach problems should go away

Hi Donnaa, I was on byetta for over 3 yrs, and yes it does curb the food eating. you know there is 2 types of byetta! one is 5 mcg's and the other is 10 mcg's, if you are taking the larger dose then ask your doctor if you can take the lower one. that will help your tummy it did mine. I had to stop because it sayes on the box that if you have kidney problems you should not take it.

Sorry on the font size in the last post: reposting for those who 'like' the larger fonts:

Hi,
I've been on Byetta almost 3 months now.  Month 1 was at 5ML and I had no major issues.  Occasional nausea but nothing of importance.  At the end of the first month had my follow up visit with my MD and we upped my dose to 10ML.  Had a bit more nausea at first but by week 3 had an issue.

By the 6 week mark I had lost ~15lbs putting me ~185 and as my weight got under 185 I found that my blood sugars would drop really bad after my dose (which fits since my control is pretty tight once I'm under 185).  The result seemed to indicate that I was overdosing in that I would take the dose and regardless of what I ate or did I was vomitting.  So after about 4 or 5 days called the doc and stepped back down to the 5ML dose.

Doing fine on teh 5 ML dose have my 1st A1C next week and it should be back under 6 (was up to 6.2 when I went on Byetta).

My biggest problem to date is that I've had 2 of 3 pens that didn't dispense my does when I hit the plunger and instead wait until I twist the cap after I push it in.  Rather annoying to have to sit there and manipulate the end of the pen while I sit there like a stuck pig.

I used Byetta for 8 months, lost 6 pounds then I started gaining weight. I stop taking the Byetta after hearing about recent deaths from pancreatis. I have enough health problems without creating more, I know that all meds have side effects. But for me it wasn't helping to control my weight and I had too many hypo's. Don't know if the nausea came from Byetta or other medical problems, I'm nauseated most of the time.

Hello, my name is James, I am a type 2 diabetic.  I told Byetta for nearly a year and it does upset your stomach as well as making you feel lousy at times.  My doctor took me off it about 6 months ago without explanation but now I know why.  All these meds we take have side effects that would freak you out if you ever read about them.
I look up medicine, their uses, side effects, warnings and what a nurse should for and it can get really scary what they can cause.   Makes you want to go back to the old home remedies of using herbs. lol
God bless all of you.
James
