I used to be on insulin and Byetta.  Gave up the byetta as it didn't seem to do much for my blood sugars and because of a history with pancreatitis dropped it.  I was getting not only the small amount of nausea from byetta but also had severe stomach pains.  My endo said she had several patients on insulin and byetta(Type 2's only of course).
(I also tried Symlin with insulin but it did nothing for my numbers or well being).

I am on Byetta Lantus and Metformin and have had no problems with any of them.
When first on Byetta I lost 30 lbs have kept it off but haven't had continued loss.
Why are you asking?  I know there was an article concerning Byetta and the pancreas but I've had no problems.  My BG was 103 this morning, just had my AC1 and waiting results.  I expect good results.

I'm asking because I want to know if it was possible for type 2's on insulin to take byetta.  My numbers are not good.  Because of liver complications, I can't take pills.  Nothing too much that filters through the liver. I'm not doing so well on insulin.  I thought byetta would help.

Well I just got clearance from my doc this afternoon to start taking byetta, he prescribed me 5(whatever the measurement is called) for 30 days 2 x a day once before breakfast, and once before dinner. And then after 30 days to up to 10. We had about a 10 min discussion about this..my mom is a nurse of 12 yrs now and did some medical journal research it has no risk on hepatic or renal systems. So hope this works for me, im on lantus and humalog and now the byetta. Good luck Miss Kitty!

Miss Kitty, i don't know if you were asking me this question but my doctor told me since i was on insulin i could not take byetta. It is to be used for people who do not take insulin. Symlin has the same effect as byetta and is for people who are on insulin. He was not an endocrinologist so maybe he did not know what he was talking about LOL, but he is a type 1 diabetic. I no longer see him cuz i have moved to another city. I now see an endocrinologist and a family doctor.

Ok.  I just wanted to be sure it was safe.  I see others on insulin are using it too.  I've read all the comments about the side effects too.  I'm still  thinking about getting on it well, suggesting to my dr. that i be put on it.  I need these numbers to go down and stay down.  This stuff is attacking my hair follicles.  Thanks for answering my questions.
