What are you doing to maintain that weight loss?

I am looking for suggestions here, please.

Hugs,

Hey Angelbears,
Well I haven't hit that point yet.  I am still trying to lose it all.  I do however have a plan!  For $75.00 I can get a metabolism analysis where they tell you how much you burn just sitting still.  That would be your base line.  I figure if I wear my pedometer then I know how many other calories I burn just moving around during the day.  Then I build a diet with the proper caloric intake.  Now, like I said, I'm not there yet, but it makes sense to me.  Whether it will work or not remains to be seen!
Mike

I've got to lose it first.....but I think you should talk to a dietician, find out how many calories to maintain your weight...and how much to maintain the exercise...

I gained back a little of the weight I lost last year but it was because I found so many low-carb snacks that wouldn't affect my blood sugar, but was still high in calories.  So I've been limiting those "snacks" and now I'm pretty stable now.  Good Luck!  It's always a battle.  I also came to the realization that I have to exercise to keep the weight off, too.

Cora I'm not a dietician, I should be as I've tried all the diets and failed them all - but one I have read many times that if you multiply your goal weight (in lbs) by 10 that is the ideal amount of calories to eat.  Of course this is just a starting point and your milage may vary.  Regards Holly

Thanks for the responses. I know we are all different.

Cora - The CDE's we saw in January, one was a dietician. They talked about what we should eat. My appointment with the nutritionist whet by the way side. Actually, if it hadn't been for that horrible experience - nearly 2 hour wait and didn't see her, I don't know if I would have gotten to see the CDE's. I found them when looking for an alternative. For now, my doctor doesn't want me to change anything (except for the meds). I am to keep doing everything the same.

I have to agree with KoKo regarding exercise. In the past, when I have exercised, I have kept the weight off. When I stopped for whatever reason, I gained. I also notice there is a big connection to exercise and my bg's. Of course, what I eat plays into it, no matter what.

Holly - how simple is that and it makes so much sense! I keep a record of all the calories and carbs I eat. What I have noticed is that I still have to watch the carbs. I have a little bit of play with the calories and I'm talking about about 100 calories. This is really a life long change. Old habits die hard. Like you Holly, I've tried most diet out there. I've lost the weight, I just want it to be different this time.

Hugs,

In the past year I lost 35 pounds by limiting carbs, and I exercise (pretty strenuously) 5 days a week.  I had flu last month, and had no energy whatsoever.  I just sat.  I couldn't concentrate on anything, and I was completely inactive for 2 1/2 weeks.  I put on 6 pounds eating as I always have since I started losing weight.  I'm baack to working out, and 5 are gone, but it was a real shocker.  I'm convinced I need to do both..

Hi pix8ed2004!

I agree - I need to watch what I eat AND exercise to keep my blood sugars under control.

I have kept my weight off and am happy about that. I do some form of exercise everyday. I try to do 10,000 steps a day - even when I don't feel like it.

Glad to see your post.

Hugs,
angelbear

I'd like to loose the weight also, but I can not afford to go see a nutritionist or a diabetic educator because it cost so much money, of which I don't have and I have no medical coverage either, so what's a person to do. I hope you are successful in you weight loss.

Ok...diabeticdepressed...the first thing ya gotta do is change your sign in here! Ok to have started posting with that name but now lets think of a more positive handle!
Just having found this board ..if you do some research on the net  about diet (which costs nothin) you have great people to run ideas by on this forum and you will get some help.
I know I have been doing that the last few weeks...feel lucky to have found a group with more experience than I and so loving and helpful!

Diabeticandepressed, I have to agree with Veets here...get you a new name, think positive...yes, it would be nice if you could see a CDE, but you can't...OK, then we'll work around that...most of us here know a lot or at least a little about diabetes, diet and exercise and more than willing to help you...Exercise doesn't have to cost anything...all you need is a good pair of shoes and socks...walking is free...I just came back from a 20 minute, stroll...my dogs are ecstatic....I'm tired...but it cost me nothing...as for eating, the main thing is to take stock of what you have...what you're used to eating, start cutting back...now you're gonna think I'm contradicting myself....but eat often...about 6 times a day...the reason for eating small meals, often, is to not let yourself get so hungry that you overeat, and your BGs don't fluctuate much...and on the walking, the walk doesn't have to be 20 minutes at a time...5 minutes is great...you can't walk, no problem, look up "chair exercises" on the net, lots of good moves without even getting out of the chair and they cost nothing...want to lift weights, but can't afford barbells?  Get you a couple of gallon milk jugs, fill them part way with water and lift...get you a couple of cans of food, raise the cans up and down...now you're lifting weights...and exercise can be fun...dance to some music, who care whether you can actually dance..close the curtains, turn on the radio...

"Beating Diabetes" is a book that talks about how to lose weight and keep it off. It is based on a program called the Diabetic Prevention Program. The idea of this program is to change life style in such a way as to lose 7% to 10% of your weight and then keep it off. The idea is not to diet, but to change life style for good and that requires something you can live with, ways to handle problem times, how to create doable goals etc.

For me exercise is the key factor! More exercise means lower weight and BGs. I also diet better when I exercise, Probably a mental thing, but I feel better, have less tention and eat a little less. The neat thing about exercise is you can cheat a little on the diet and keep the good controls.

For me...like so many others...the key is exercise.  If I don't exercise...and even if I eat the same...the weight does creep back up.  I think that exercise is the key because it also keeps you toned...which means ...for me.. I wear a smaller size (even with the same weight) because things are tightened and in place...plus the muscle may weigh more but it looks a whole lot better!  Good Luck!  - Jenny.

I definitely agree with you Jenny. Exercise is very important to keep the weight off. I've lost 60 pounds on a diet from the dietician and I do some form of exercise daily. Actually most days I enjoy the exercise and it really helps keep the BG where I want it.
