I would like to start counting steps like you all.  Is there any special thing to look for when buying a pedometer or one brand better then another?  I see McDonalds here has a free pedometer in the adult meal.

Hi Grape!!!! We would love it if you would join us,,,,,, Some of us got one of those and used it along with our regular pedometers and it never really read the same for me,,,,, but I think that is because you can't adjust the stride length on the one from Macdonalds,,,,, But you know what????? If it encourages you to move more than you did the day before,,,, then I say go for it,,,,, lol,,, like everything there is differences in price,,,,, But for me,,,, it just encourages me to keep moving by looking down at the number and then coming here each day(or almost each day) and tell the others how it went for that day!! Please do join us!!! Mine is made by Sportline,,,, and I got it at some Sports store,,,, even if you don't go buy one,,, get the one from Mcdonald's,, see how you like it,,, and join us,,,, Keep moving, Cuddles

I'm not a good one with this - I just want one that clicks when I walk. LOL If it clicks, I'm fine.  I got mine at a sports store. Mine didn't need to be get programed. I need to keep it simple. Hubby got his at WalMart. I also got the free one at McDonalds.

The pedometer has been a great motivator in getting me to move! Please try it and post your numbers whatever they are on the pedometer thread.

Good luck.
Hugs,
angelbear (msn keeps eating my post to you - hope this one goes)

I am going to get one.  thaank you for responding.  I plan on going to a sports store to look and hope there is not a whole bunch to choose from.....just how many steps and someone mentioned theirs counted cals burned also.  That sounded like a good thing.  Simple would be nice!  I think the clicking sound would be a good thing also.  Wonder if they have one that works in water for water walkers?  Grape

Grape, I'd just like to have one that works...LOL...have tried 3 different ones to no avail...I think it is just me, my daughter got mine to work just fine for her...no luck for me...I have it up for a lost cause, the pedometer not the walking...I go to the gym and use the treadmill, I walked 1 mile Sunday and Monday of this week, don't know if I'll go tonite or not...now there is a lot more walking done during the day, shopping, running errands, feeding the chickens, but don't know how that stacks up at the end of the day other than I'm tired...LOL...good luck and keep up the water exercises, whether you can find a pedometer to work or not....I did some walking in water, it is really great exercise...

Just a little heads up - the Lantus drug rep gave me some pedometers to give out to patients - they are too cool - even plays music.  Call the doctors and ask if they have any and if you can have one.  All they can say is no and they might say yes.  (and if they say no ask if you can have the drug reps phone number and call them yourself - just don't say I told you to do it!!).  Puggy

I have finally found a pedometer that I love. It is an Omron HJ-112 Digital Pedometer called the Walking Style. You can carry it in your pocket or your purse and it will still count your steps. It does not count the vibrations when you are riding in your car as steps. It keeps track of calories, aerobic steps, and distance as well. Also it keeps track of 7 days of walking You can get it at Walmart. It is not in the sports section but with the blood pressure equipment in the pharmacy. It is well worth the money. I think it is @ $19.00
It is the one pedometer that you do not have to wear on your hip to count steps.
