April 2005 I joined curves and started to go. As months went on I injured myself, stopped exercising for a while and then personla problems kept me away.  Last months I have started going consistently.. I am back on a 3 day a week schedule and doing well. I am not doing it for weight loss.. below my ideal weight at this point.. but the exercise is good for the soul and bgs.

Is anyone a member of Curves?
Would like to hear your opinions about Curves and how u are doing.
A year ago we had a thread going that encouraged  people to go and be consistent with this exercise program.

Hi Veets!

Id like to ask you something about Curves. First you must know that I am the worlds biggest procrastinator...always got the plan on paper but doing it...thats another story. I was diagnosed with t2 a month ago and am still tryn to work everything out, the meds, the meals, the times, etc. I havent even began an exercise routine...but I have considered Curves for along time. Ive heard great things about it and have many in my area. How much does a membership cost? I think Id be more willing to be involved in something like that verses being surrounded by size 2's at my complex's workout center! Im usually looking at them like, "Y'all dont even need to be here" and Im sure they are thinking to themselves..."OMG is she serious"??? LOL  Anyways, anything you can offer about it would be great. I looked it up online but it only gives me info on where to go to and when I call them they say "Come In"...I appreciate it very much and keep up the good work!!

Marsha the Curves I belong to is in NYc and it is 50 a month.. I am sure that is the highest in the country and other areas the fee is at least 10 dollars less.

I would say at my Curves about 80% of the ladies need to lose weight in varying amounts. If you think you are interested go to a local Curves and they will show you the circuit and let you try some machines. It isnt for everyone but it has worked for me for over two years as my primary exercise.

Marsha.. I was wondering if you ever did check out Curves?

So I have been going very consistently. One of the trainers went to school with my son and I have known her since she was 11 years old.. so we are friendly.. We made a date to go through what I am doing and see what I can do to make the workout more effective.. What was so difficult a year ago is not giving my muscles enough of a work out now.

JUst my update that I do from time to time. Curves is still my main exercise. I go between 3 and 5 times a week. On weeks I go 4 or 5 times there is at least one day where I don't work out so strenuously cardio.. I have been walking much because of the weather and I am thinking of getting on a schedule with using the Gazelle  which is still in the basement. When I first got it 2 years ago I was on it every day and after about 10 months I just stopped. It is great exercise. By Jan 2007 I had lost so much weight .. mostly because I was depressed and wasn't eating I looked bad. Now I have gained too much back.. I am not overweight by a long shot but could shed 5 pounds. The gain has to do with feeing better emotionally and physically, being in therapy, making an antidepressant and stopping smoking in Jan.

Once again gotta tell people that whatever level of exercise you can do will help you feel so much better.

Just a short update on Curves. It suprises me that with all the members here that no other women have joined Curves and exercise there. Now that the weather has turned hot it is a pleasure to go to Curves where the a/c is blasting and do a workout.  last fri I set out on a long walk and half way jumped on the bus to get where I was going... the heat was just too much to deal with for me.
Happy exercise everyone.

Your dedication to Curves is inspiring. :) (I just realized this thread originated over a year ago.)

I've always wanted to go there but there isn't one close enough by. A Curves had opened up in the tiny little town close to me but they apparently didn't get the business they were expecting because the last time I drove through there, they were gone. :(

I really should find a gym of some sort to join but I'm not dedicated enough to committ to a membership. Or I should say, I can't find enough spare time to go when it involves driving for an hour first just to get there. I prefer to walk the roads around my house (and as a bonus, I've met some really interesting people that I probably wouldn't have met if I didn't go on these walks.) I guess the type of exercise or where you do it really doesn't matter as long as you are getting it.

So basically I wrote all of that when my original intention was just to say way to go to you Veets...lol. I need to be less wordy.

Veets, I hope you come back and see this post. I joined Curves two years ago and it's the best thing I ever did. I wasn't able to go from Jan. to the middle of May and I could tell it in my BG levels. Now I'm back to going four times a week and I'm in control of my BG numbers, my A1C went from 7.4 to 6.6. I've also lost seven pounds since returning to Curves. I'm not a very big person but I'm very short so any extra weight shows up fast. Right now at my Curves we have a summer camp, we play games and do other things to earn points each week. We have 14 machines and this huge stretching thing that looks like a jungle gym. It costs me $29 a month but new members are paying $34 now.

I have still been going to Curves 3 to 5 times a week..

My best friend had open heart surgery on Aug 6 and we are starting to do some power walks together..

She is doing Great!!

Not so sure that will become viable exercise once the weather gets cold.. we live in NYC.

So here is my update on Curves. I am still going! It is just so part of my routine that I just do it and don't even consider not going . I go between 3-5 times a week.

Now some ladies I see there look like they are barely moving. The machines are set up on a hydrolic principle and that means if you do let's say 3 repeats in 30 seconds you create no resistance and would get little out of the potential the machine could provide. The idea of the recovery board is in between the machines you have exerted yourself and your goal for that 30 seconds is just to keep your heart rate up.. a little. I tend to be more active on the recovery board than many other women I see so the workout is more aerobic for me. The idea is 2 1/2 times around the circuit and  can tell you that after the first round I am sweating.

Once again I would encourage ladies who have not found an exercise that they can stay with to consider Curves.

Hi! I'm still going to Curves and loving the results. My A1C is down to 5.9, it was 7.4 back in May, that was after not going to Curves for 5 months. I have gone 322 times and my 78 year old mom has gone 720 times. Like you, Curves is a part of my daily routine, I go 4 and sometimes 5 times a week. I was one of the biggest losers over the summer, mostly inches. I'm back into my size 8 pants and loving it. I got one of my friends at work to join, hoping to get a few more to join.

Veets, was wondering how you're doing? I'm still enjoying Curves and the health benefits of going. Christmas was tough because I work retail but I actually lost 2 pounds, due to my stressful job I'm sure.

I also have been going to Curves since last August.  I prefer Bally's, but Curves is right in my current neighborhood.  It's a lot like Bally's ladies circuit weight room.

I'm in physical rehab, and did have to take a few months off Curves as a result, but I finally got the go ahead to do it, but skip certain machines and moves.
