Not only am I diabetic, but I was in a car accident several years ago from which my hip never fully recovered.  I require a cane to walk.  My spinal column is full of arthritis from neck to pelvis, and I experience quite a bit of pain.  I'm planning to ask my doctor to refer me to physical therapy.  Is anyone else in this situation, with physical disability but needing exercise anyway?  What exercises do you do?

Note this:  currently I am battling a viral infection which has settled into my inner ears and is creating intolerable dizziness.  Any exercise at all would be out of the question for me at the present time, but when I am feeling healthy I really do need to get started.  Thanks.

Hiya, do you like the water? If so what about some water activities?
I'm type 1 but like you I am riddled with arthritis. I tend to just put one foot in front of the other once my pain meds have kicked in.
1st thing in the morning is a bit of a b*gger but once up and moving I seem to get by ok.
My physio says I must keep moving no matter how bad I feel because if I don't my range of movement will keep on going down. I have been given set exercises to do each day without fail

So great to see a post from you, sarahQ!  Just mentioned your name yesterday, and was searching the boards to make certain you were alright.  I know you have been riddled by that dreaded arthritis, especially recently.  Thinking of you and praying you are well!  How are Tanner and the other assorted little ones?

Raya~  I understand that you may have pain from "other" physical issues and challenges.  But "movement" is essential for your physical and mental well-being.  There are  exercises that can be done seated or from bed.  Richard Simmons (I know...but he is a guru even so!) has video tapes of wheelchair exercises.  And as anyone who has been in a hospital can tell you, there is physical therapy done from hospital beds.  Where there's a will there's a way.  Always check with your doctor, to be certain that any exercise program is safe for you.  He(she) may have suggestions for you, as well.  I commend you for your efforts!  Good luck!  And please keep us posted on how you are doing, OK?  HUGS!  sheryl
