It is a interesting topic, one that I ponder daily, I am 74, been through a lot of health problems becouse of a birth defect, and until I was 18, I lived for the most part in James Whitcom Riley Hospital. I had a wonderful education, tutors and read the complet medical library, also a public library later on. At 18 I married had three sons in a row, got them off to school and went to work in retail, not too glamorious a profession, but it was fun for the most part, worked in every aspect of the job, from grand openings to closings, the most fun I had was at Zayer, in the Damaged and Defective department," You Break It and I'll Take It", was my moto, found that little room under the stairs could make money, and my last year before they closed I made $555.000 in credits and returns, my hair turned gray, I got slower and still I did not feel "Old", could still out work the young ones any day. Divorced and remarried three times, that took it's tole, but my head still was good, and I did not feel "Old", So now I have three steents a pacemaker, and am packing to go Mi. seems funny but I still wake up with a "40 year old mind in a 74 year old body", So the moral to this is keep moving, look forward to every thing and always have a way out when it gets too bad. Peace and Blessing to all that are "Growing Old Gracefully". Marty |

Marty, I can certainly relate on some levels. I will be 76 in April. I notice I, too, think of age more these days. Just last night my daughter and I were talking about age. I said I can no longer dance the night away like I used to. She turns 54 this year and said she feels like she can do anything she wants still. Dance, bungee jump..... I guess I felt the same at 54. Still had plenty of energy and the future seemed to stretch a long way. Work keeps me young and also makes me feel old. I love listening to the "youngsters" but I do feel out of the loop ( another expression that belongs under the Loose Goose thread, hee hee). My hair is still brown with a sprinkle of gray. I have not fullfilled all my dreams in life or become the person I want to be in all respects, but I have mellowed to the yearning to do so..... I have become more philosophical.... or is it less energized? |

I'm not that far behind you, 64. I always say age is mind over matter, if you don't mind it doesn't matter. It's all in the attitude and you two seem to have great attitudes. I think thats what keeps us going. |

I agree with all of you....age is only a number and you are as young as you feel. Marty - I still marvel at the fact that you are willing to pack up everything and go to Michigan. Joan - I can honestly say that you do not look your age by the pictures that you have posted. I hope that I look that good in a few more years. adair |

Marty, the attitude you have reminds me so much of a dear friend I have who is close to your age. She lives over a thousand miles away from me now, but we keep in touch via emails. That woman does not believe in sitting idle for anything and I swear, she has more energy that people 10 years her age! When ipods were put on the market, she was one of the first people to get one. The woman is SO up to date on everything around her. I admire you for your drive and determination. Good luck on the big move! Barb |

I just found this board.... Reading your posts I smile because it's nice to know that I'm not alone in my beliefs. I'm 71 and the hardest part on aging for me is realizing my body will not cooperate with my energy level. My mind, ambition and humor is the same as when I was 40. My sense of humor is a little off center and I'm lucky my DH has the same kind of humor. Today I am almost living my secret dream when I was in high school. I wanted to be a well known artist living in Paris in a garret, and having many lovers..lol. Right now I am doing my art full time after raising a son, 4 husbands and having a lucrative career. I was an employment counselor for 16 yrs. working in NYC. I'm a firm believer in having a positive attitude. I don't have many friends because I feel there is more to life than talking about kids and grandkids and the average senior woman seems to have given up on themselves. Life is good! |

I am nearing 61 [birthdate is April ]and today I got the most unexpected gift from a woman [nearly 51 ] who said that I was around her age or younger . Why? because I had no obvious wrinkles . wow that threw me .! I wonder what she will say when I do get them. Age is growing older without wrinkles for me .. well ........ maybe it is because 'I don't iron my clothes ? ' or 'I dont smoke either .! ' |
