Hello!   I've noticed that the same question keeps coming up with many of the new members from the past and present when I get e-mails from them or when they post it. The concern is with their aging, getting older, changes in their life, body, etc. I thought maybe we could discuss it here. Those that have been through something could talk about it here where it might help another going through it. Also anyone with fears, concerns, post it here and we can support you in any way we can. Any experiences you have had that make you feel old, etc. Lets talk!

Not yet, Angelbear! But that option's coming up too quickly.I've got a cane propped up by the toilet(er) more like a sturdy stick.

I love this area too!!

I was on HRT for the last 2 years and it has helped.  Gyn said I would only need it for a few years.  I went thru peri-menopause when I was 41.  Was put on HRT then but created a breast mass so they took me off.  I was put on it then so I would have regular periods since my body still apparently wanted to have them just couldn't decide when or for how long. lol

This last time I was put on them the doc said that I was like a desert and he was giving me a drink of water.  It really did help with the dryness and insomnia and depression.  But I was also going thru a divorce so all but the dryness would have been there anyway.  Now that I'm passed all that crap, I decided to stop the HRT.  My insurance changed here at work and it is now a $40 copay for it a month (from $10) and I just want to see how I will do without it.

I also started working out at Curves w/my gf.  I have more energy and am not as tired at night so I am staying up later.  I use to go to bed by 7 everynight.  Now I don't want to go to bed so early.  I also take Calcium, a multi-vitamin and an aspirin a day.

I hope to keep feeling physically as good as I feel mentally.  I don't see 50 as being a "bad" thing anymore!!

Where to start ...I am 50 ...I have epilepsy, pustular psoariasis, high blood pressure and my knees and hands ache all the time.  I have recently had a complete hysterectomy due to various problems.  I had one battle with a form of leukemia about seven years ago and I am in remission from that.  I was sent home to make my my final arrangements on three seperate occasions...but I am still here.  I thank God for that.  I am in constant stuggle with my weight...I have been on weight watchers for about 18 months with a total loss of 88 lbs.  I have an amazing life that is only made richer by my friends in this group.  I don't speak about my health issues very often because I don't like them to define who I am.  I am not a sickly person...I am happy and healthy and rarely have a day where I feel down.  I actually can't believe you all got me to tell so much about my health.  But there it is.  Although I have all of these issues I wouldn't change my life at all...not one bit.

Karen... What a wonderful attitude you have!
I applaud you keeping upbeat despite cruel maladies.
Pustular Psoriasis in pretty uncommon. What treatment do you use?
My grand daughter has the more common form of Psoriasis and I am always researching remedies.

I have weekly injections of Raptiva...and it WORKS!  I feel like I should be a poster child for the medication!  It has truely given me back my life.  I encourage everyone to try it.  There was a time when the palms of my hands and the bottoms of my feet had no skin.  I could neither walk nor touch anything.  I am now fully recovered and have all of my skin back.  Nails too!   I now lead a completely normal life.  Well there are  exceptions ...I cannot touch cleaning products or rubber gloves....

CC and KAREN  My youngest son who has CP also has epilepsy, he's had all kinds of seizures over the years, including Grand Mal which is so scary....He's on 3 different meds but he still breaks through.

LOL ...funny how you say the word epipepsy and people crawl out of the wood work!

CC
I am very lucky...haven't had a seizure in 25 years.  My son has it too and he had a ruff way to go for a few years but is doing well now...he is 25.  We both have Grand Mal...although I started with absence seizures as a teen.   I take 1,000 mg of depakote...and my son takes 2,000mg of Depakote ER.  That has worked wonders for him.  Something about the ER...it works great for him but I suffered terrible headaches with it and had to stay with the plain old Depakote.  Finding the BEST Neuologist is the ticket...if you don't get the answers you want just keep going.  When my son was diagnosed I did more research for him than I did for myself...go figure!  Depakote has a down fall though...weight gain.  I am in constant struggle with that but I have managed to lead a normal life.

Cholla...please don't ever show your fear with your son...do whatever you have to...empower yourself with knowledge but don't show fear.  I have been through so much with my son making sure he leads a normal and happy life.  He was told not to play football...he did.  But I never missed a game.  I never allowed him to feel different from anyone else...he is NOT!  He only has a few restrictions.  He cannot deep sea dive or fly a plane.  He is like his Mommy he is a successful adult who has also chosen a carreer in law inforcement.

What meds is everyone on?

I have sailed through life without any problems until now.  I always thought I would be the pretty old lady like the ones you see on the street. Tall, skinny, beautiful gray hair, you know the ones.  I have never had any broken bones or stitches or major operations.  Even when I had my son I didn't have any labor pains, just numbness in my thighs every time I had a contraction.  I had my tubes tied, minor breast surgery to remove the ducts in one and othroscopic surgery on my left knee because of a torn miniscus.  Now comes the problem.  I am told that I need a total knee replacement in that knee.  The last words from my dr were deal with it and when you  can't take it anymore come back and we'll give you that replacement.  Everytime I think about that procedure I stomach flips and I feel like I am going to throw up.  Don't know what I am going to do.
