I thought I was over this, now its starting again......my hair is falling out again.  Does anyone have this problem and what did you do about it?  I even bought a hairpiece last summer to the tune of $1700....and I think it still looks fake, lol.

Hi Valley,
I somehow missed this......that you had a gastric bypass.  Wow, that's pretty drastic, but I sooooo admire you for having the courage to do it.  How long did it take to recover and what can you eat?  Are you still losing?
Thanks for the tip on the Nioxin but I've used it; it works for some people but not for everyone.  My hair is still falling out, getting thinner and thinner.  It makes me feel very old.......lol.

Hello,
I've read all the good advice posted.  I did experience what you're experiencing.  My hair began to fall out when I was in my mid-thirties!  It was very noticeable too.  I went to the Dr. and he told me basically what everyone here is telling you.  I had no physical problems that could explain the hair loss so he wrote it down as "stress-related".  The one thing that REALLY helps me is a vitamin supplement I buy from GNC.  It's called Women's Ultra Nourishair.  You take 2 of those a day.  I also take their multi vitamin Women's Ultra Mega.  Try to eat alot of protein.  For myself, I've noticed that when I eat nuts or seeds, it seems to somehow aggravate the situation which makes me wonder if my gall bladder is somehow involved??  I also switched to a shampoo that contained wheat protein because I do have very sensitive skin.  (TresEmme Intense Moisture seems to do the trick.)  That's my regime.  It works for me.  Good luck!

I thought of one more thing...I also noticed that when I drank Slim Fast, it made my hair fall out.  That's why I mentioned the bit about the nuts and seeds before.  I don't know what it is, but it seems that higher fiber foods...or maybe it's certain kinds of fiber...tend to do that to me.  I thought I was crazy but one day, I was goofing around on the internet.  I went to slimfast.com and was reading their FAQ's.  And one of the women had said, "Slim Fast is making my hair fall out...what do I do?"  And the answer was, "Are you drinking plenty of water."  I remember thinking I wasn't so crazy after all.  There has to be some sort of correlation between that and the hair falling out.  Weird!!

I never drink water.......I used to drink it throughout the day when I stayed at home.  But since I've been working, I don't have the time to drink it because it makes me run to the bathroom every 15 minutes.....pea bladder that I have.  Maybe I better start drinking it since I've already had two bladder infections since I started working, maybe from lack of water intake.  And, at the hospital, they couldn't get my veins to come up for the needle stick for the IV or blood draw because I was dehydrated.  Thanks for the tip.

Now we have to get you drinking water, the most important asset to your body I feel. Get drinking Christine!  Fill a plastic bottel up then you can keep track how much you drink each day. I buy botteled water by the cases. My kids drink lots of it now. If they had to use a glass they wouldn't drink as they do. Small price to pay.

Hey Christine,

I drink water all the time... never without a bottle next to me. I have several of those large bottles that come with insulated jackets. I rotate about 5 of them in the freezer... I do use tap water... I fill them 3/4 full and stand or prop them in the freezer... when I leave the house I grab one of the bottles usually filling it up with what is left in the bottle from the last one and put it in one of the jackets and carry it with me to where I might be going... generally to work... or off on  a trip too... anyway... the water stays cold all day long as it melts... then when I get home I just move to the next one... fill the old one and refreeze... note... it is a good idea to either put the bottle through the dishwasher or wash with warm soapy water from time to time... I am the only one here that uses these bottles so they are my germs... I wash them frequently if I have a cold or something... but you get the idea... yeah you have to pee alot... but my hair doesn't fall out and I have never had a kidney or bladder infection... Babs...

Good idea , Babs about freezing the water bottles 3/4 full.  I think a lot more people would drink water if they had a bottle with them that was cold.  Can't stand lukewarm water myself.  Looneybird (Beverly)

To keep your urine "acidic" and prevent bladder infections - drink a lot of citrus juices - orange is very good.  I guess I'm lucky - I've never had a bladder infection, but I drink OJ like it is going out of style!

What wonderful tips!
And.. thank you. I thought my thinning hair was family related. My grandmother was just about bald. My sis wears a wig, but than she is on some heavy medication. Which, by the way, watch out for some meds, those can cause balding.
My top is thinning to the point where I have to watch how I style my hair or you can see thru it. I have tried all kinds of product which claim to "thicken" hair. No.. doesn't work for me. I dont drink water, I am a Diet Pepsi-halic. Coffee before noon, than Diet pepsi the rest of day into the night. Unhealthy, ya.
However, I have had Carotid Artery surgery last Sept. and could that be why?? Oh man, I hope not cause the right Carotid now needs repair! Geez, if so... I'll be bald by the time I'm clog free LOL.
I like the water idea, convenience of grabbing a bottle, nice idea. I'm too lazy to get a glass, fill it with ice, and fill the glass..... to much work (lazy me).

I keep bottled water next to me all day.  I will add one of those new little packages of lemonade mix or something to make it taste better.  No calories in it!!  I am not losing my hair yet.......except the few inches that I chose to cut off.  Could it be the water?  who knows but I know that the body needs it for all sorts of things so I drink it!
