Eons ago, I read "Your Erroneous Zones", along with many other self help books, eg:  "The Games People Play". "I'm OK your OK", to name a few.  You name it, I read it...at that time.

As I recall, Wayne Dyer turned me off at the time by not claiming any responsibility for anyone but himself. Children included.  It sounded so self serving and selfish. (I could be wrong in that opinion, mainly because I have never been able to achieve that mind set).  Of course, none of us can be truly responsible for another's life on one level.

I have tuned in occasionally when he was on TV but  he didn't hold my interest.
In all fairness, none of them do. There was a woman who was on tv occasionally, who talked about subjects connected to  being older. I can't recall her name, I want to say Ruth something..... I  enjoyed a few of her talks.

Are you into Wayne Dyer?

I have not heard him speak anywhere, TV or radio.

I read "The Erroneous Zones" many moons ago by Dyer.

Joan-  "I'm OK, You're OK" is not written by Dyer, its written by Dr. Thomas Harris. I love Dr. Harris's books and have read many back in the day with my Psychology.

Oh, you are right, Wanda. I was just referring to other self help books I have read. There were a ton of them when I was in that phase. Eric Berne  was the author of Games People Play.
I also went throught a psychic phase where I read Nostradomas (sp) and Edgar Cayce books.

That reminds me of my mother, who was an avid mystery reader until she turned 80ish..then she switched to Romance... like Barbara Carter novels..That always amused me.

Yep, definitely into Dyer. I had heard him on the radio a time or two a few years but then the programming changed and that was that. Somehow, I am not really clear on the serquence of events, after my mother died, a sib and I were both drawn to him. Right time of life I guess but adopting many of the principals he espouses has made a big impact on our lives. Just kind of wondering if anyone else in the group has experienced the same.

I gave a book report on "Pulling Your Own Strings" in my Psychology class back in the 70s.  I still love that book.

I know this is an old posting but I have read several of Dyer's books. The last one being The Power of Intention. I find him interesting and many of his principles very helpful in a non-traditional sense. I also like Deepak Chopra. I saw him on Oprah once and was curious. He is also interesting and encouraging.  He likes Dyer. I actually find Chopra more engaging and perhaps more other focused than Dyer.  So anyway that's my two cents for what it's worth. I enjoy reading and finding new resources.  I also like Martha Beck. She has a Great Book called "Finding Your Own North Star."  Love to read. It was a great day when a Borders moved close to our house because you can read there for free! Cheap entertainment for myself and kids when funds are low and newer books than the library. Anyone else a book fan?

Ohhh maybe I need to visit the library and see if I can get some new reading. I love Dyer but have listened to his CDs and read his book so frequently I almost feel like I am getting numb to what he says.
Thanks for your insights!

Jacki, I think Dyer is on PBS quite a bit. He definitely thinks differently than most main stream people. However, I enjoy some of his ideas.  Bernadette, The book by Martha Beck is great if you are up for a book that makes you think about your life and how you might like to make a few changes. It is an easy read, and she is very friendly toward the reader.  I made some pretty significant changes in my life after reading that book. Anyway, not exactly light reading, but thought inspiring at least. Sometimes I like books like that but I also like fiction as well. Gena

I never heard of him either, but for the longest time I was a fan of Leo Buscaglia.  I so enjoyed reading his books and listening to his tapes.  I wished everyone could see things as simply as he did.  I'll check out this man though...thanks.

Dyer's a lot different than Leo, but you might like Martha Beck. Heck you might like Dyer too. It's always fun to see what other people are thinking and Leo is a really positive guy and so is Dyer. Happy reading! Gena
