I have just finished reading Angels & Demons and also The Da Vinci Code. I won't have too much time for novel reading for a while. Other books I have read and enjoyed in the passed few years: anything by Barbara Kingsolver, especially The Prodigal Summer and The Ironwood Bible. Also anything by Toni Morrison: Beloved, The Bluest Eye.
I do love John Steinbeck's novels! My favs are Travels with Charly and Cannery Row. We live close to Salinas/Monterey were all these stories are based. The is a wonderful museum on JS in Salinas. Also one of teachers in teacher prep was an internationally known expert on JS so we had a couple of good chats as well. |

I seem to be one of those that has 2 or 3 books going at a time and somehow can keep the story lines straight in each of them. I am currently reading "The Da Vinci Code" and "Living History" by Hilary Clinton. I do plan on getting Bill Clinton's book as well. Her book is quite interesting and she really gives a good background of her life growing up, even covering (for a few pages) her parents life and how they grew up as well. All of this, as explained by her and I agree, is necessary to understand how she and her views were shaped. She writes well and it reads as if she is sitting right there talking to you. I also have read a couple of the Janet Evanovich series of books. They are quick reads and even though her main character is a young woman who becomes a bounty hunter out of necessity for $$$, she does interject the humor of it all. Like when the woman goes to aprehend someone, reaches into her purse for her gun and she bungles it and everything, gun, mace and all goes all over the place. But she does have some tense moments in there as well. They are very good and are in paperback. |

I picked up Vinegar, Duct Tape, Milk Jugs and More for reading materials on the flight back from Kentucky. It has 1001 different ways to repair, restore, revive or replace things. I have been skimming through it since I got back (did not get to read it on the plane...was too busy trying to sleep). I found a few already that I will be posting in another day or two. adair |

That sounds like a cool book that is probably filled with lots of ideas. My Dad always believed in duct taping everything. Have you seen the Duct Tape t-shirts out? LOL! |

I have just finished the DaVinci Code and am starting on Angels & Demons. I spent the summer with lots of light beach reading like Nora Roberts & Luanne Rice. It's difficult to read anything too heavy with kids running up and down the beach, you always have to stop and watch the antics!! |

@Adair ... i really liked the Da Vinci Code ... i heard, as you did, that a movie would be made, with Tom Hanks ... i like Tom Hanks, but another actor under consideration was Russell Crowe ... after seeing him in "a beautiful mind" ... i, personally, would have really loved to see him in this movie ... he would have been great in it ... oooh well ... right now, i just started reading "Terry, My Daughter's Life-andDeath Struggle with Alcoholism" ... written by George McGovern ... there is alcoholism in my family ... and to see it discussed as it is in this book makes it even more poignant for me ... really is an emotionally touching read ... |

hi Adair ... yes, i finished the McGovern book ... it was good, although, at the end tiring, as it went into all the many many many times that Terry was in and out of different treatment facilities ... but i am glad i read it ... it was interesting that the McGovern's youngest child, their son, is also an alcoholic ... and while Terry was not successful at sobriety, it was encouraging that their son, so far, is ... yes, i am glad i read it ... : ) |

I watched Oprah today and heard a story that was turned into a book, I can't wait to buy it. Its called "Honeymoon With My Brother." Its about a story of a guy who got dumped 5 days before his wedding, had the wedding reception to have his friends around, lost his job a few days later, decided since his honeymoon trip was unrefundable he and his brother would go on it. After that they decide to sell everything and go around the world for two years with a happy ending to it and lots in-between. Anyone see the show? |

CC, I think you will enjoy the Da Vinci Code. It is not a hard read but it keeps you wanting to finish the next page (or at least it did me). |
