 Christmas Traditions
Do you have a tradition that you do every Christmas? Something that has special meaning or just something that you did as a child that you have carried over into your own family Christmas.

I have two. One is every Christmas eve we have tuna noodle cassarole for dinner. Mom had it when we were growing up and my sisters and I have carried it over into our famlies. It is a quick dinner so we can trim the tree on Christmas Eve.

Also I have to have my cookies that I back every year. There are certain one that just wouldn't be Christmas with out them. I bake for three days on these cookies.

So what is your tradition tell us please.

I love traditions!!

We had many growing up and I will list a few here.

1.One thing we were always given each Christmas was something that always satisfied our five senses, Hear, Smell, Touch, See and Taste. An example was a 43 or 33 rpm record; perfume or bath products; clothes; books; and candy. I have done this for our sons every year.

2.The only thing under the tree prior to Christmas Eve was gifts from extended family and friends. Those were opened on Christmas Eve after dinner. Then everything was cleared away from the tree waiting on Santa.

3. Bows and ribbons are done late Christmas Eve and then the "Santa" gifts were placed under the tree in a beautiful arrangement. I do this while watching "Its A Wonderful Life". Pictures are then taken.

4. The boys and I choose a new ornament each year. When the day comes and they leave the nest they will have their own starter set of decorations with memories.

We always have homemade pizza and watch "A Christmas Carol".  Either the one with Alastair Sims or Reginald Owens, the old black and white versions.  This was our tradition as children.

panda, I absolutely love the one with Alastair Sims...as a matter of fact, I had to buy a tape of it a few years ago so that I could watch it on Christmas Eve.

My family had a warped sense of humor and there was always some sort of joke gift to be unwrapped Christmas morning.  I still wrap up something unusual to put under the tree each year.  If an unusual gift is not to be found that suits me, I will wrap a present up differently (wrapped boxes nestled inside of more wrapped boxes, money taped to the underside of the top of the box, a couple of marbles in packages that get shaken, etc).

Two Christmas' ago my son received $100.00 - all in $1.00 bills, each rolled and tied with ribbon and then tied to the ribs of an umbrella.  He, of course, did not realize that the umbrella had other goodies in it until a few days later when he decided to use it one morning   "Liver" usually is the recipient of some weird musical composition.  The best music I have come upon for him  was Mary Schneider Yodeling the Classics .

When I was a child, Santa always brought my siblings and me our very own jars of green olives.  Those were our olives and if we wanted to sit and eat the whole jar at once that was our choice.  It was funny, the Easter Bunny did the same thing   I told "Liver" about this one time and every Christmas morning I awake to find a jar of green olives under the tree; for me from Santa.

We have many traditions and here is another one to share with you. It's the drawing of names. There were five kids in our home growing up. My Mom came up with the idea of us drawing names and givng each other one gift between us kids. Till this day we do this only we changed it a bit. As we got married we added the spouses names. The names are drawn on Thanksgiving day by my Mom nad other sisters who live in Arizona. I get the call telling me who I go this year. I love this tradition.

The tradition in my family is to adopt a needy family for Christmas. We go through the Salvation Army and they tell us all about the family-how many kids, ages needs and wants. We buy gifts
for the entire family plus get some gift certificates. At the end we all chip in $100.00 per family and by them a bunch of groceries. In all we spend about $300.00-$400.00 each family. It is a small price to pay for making Christmas possible for a family who would not be able to afford one.A lot of these families are either single parents or families where one person has a disability. It always makes us feel good to give as we all have so much to be thankful for.Hugs,Diane

I LOVE traditions and we have so many!  My favorite is that we set up the nativity early and hide Baby Jesus.  His hiding place is far from the nativity scene and as Christmas gets closer, Baby Jesus' hiding place comes closer.  Finally Christmas morning He is in the manger.

My family did not eat meat on Christmas Eve.  My husband's family had sausage and pastries.   When it's just us and our children, we generally have clam chowder....  But I think our daughters will do something different with their families.  One tradition that seems to be changing with generations....

We always have a "Thompson Christmas Party" b4 C.Eve & C.Day.This involves Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Brothers, Sisters etc. etc.
The grownups get a show from the kids singing carols or a piano recital.Later, we all sing carols.Once we sounded so bad, we had a stray dog looking into the stormdoor, lol. Also one of our babies covered his ears.Bil said "Ya think he's trying to tell us something?" lol!
