Do you make anything that saves you from buying it at the store? Such as soap, potholders, clothes, aromas, etc? |

Well, I don't make it to save me from buying it, but I do make strawberry and marionberry freezer jam every year. I use it on everything! Freezer jam is so much easier and tastes better, too, than cooked/canned. whoopi |

I used to sew all the time. I can sew just about anything, but don't have time anymore. I do have a friend who makes beautiful lampwork beads. She has discovered a real talent for this. She can make beads into any shape. She has been making beads that look like little pigs and calling them silly names like green eggs and ham, pork and chops(piggies with big teeth) it is amazing what she can do with glass and a torch. She makes traditional beads as well. I am amazed by her talent. For those of you who make things and are interested in selling things on line...have you heard of the new sight (or maybe not so new sight, but I just heard of it LOL) etsy.com for crafters to go and sell their crafts? That is where my friend, gelly, sells her stuff and she makes pretty good money there. Also you can sell on ebay, but of course you have to wait for bidding there. Good luck to all you creative people!!! Gena |

WINDCHIMES....I MAKE WINDCHIMES! ilove your idea of making rocks w/jewels. I had a friend who had cement work done & put in colored stones. In the past (not so much now) imade & designed jewelry to sell in my hair salon. i took a college credit class & learned how to saw out shapes in metals. never got too good at soldering My windchimes will be shells w/metal fish for example. Also i have a lot of earrings & pins of wood hand painted. Helped keep me busy while trying to recover from spinal cord surgury. lately however I do not seem to have patience to do it. |

Well, I make things, but not necessarily to keep from buying. It's more expensive to make stuff than to buy it a lot of times. Of course, when it's handmade the quality is way better. I do quilting, crochet and knit (afghans, shawls & ponchos, dish cloths and pot holders, etc.), sewing of many kinds (clothing construction and home dec. mostly), counted cross stitch and hand embroidery, and I've done candle-making, too. If I want to do something I generally look for some instructions or a friend who knows how and then do it. |

*Lol, hubby says I make noise too...when I talk. After seeing what everyone else does in the group, what I've done seems so....simple. Love the garden area windchimes!! and your rocks, what a beautiful idea and landscaping. I've made wreaths out of squares of material in the straw wreaths, mop dolls, plastic canvas crafts and yardstick swags. One of the guys at work is a youngster of 20 something and only can use one arm. Off and on he likes to have a craft sale to earn money for a benifit, and his parents devised a wooden board with nails so he can make simple key chains. When I was his contact at work, I got involved helping create another craft he could sell as well, gift "buckets" out of coffee cans I spray painted and decopauged from the tons of wall-paper sample books I have at home. Added a touch of glitter, used old wire hangers to create handles, and added a bit of raffi to the handles to give them a country touch. They could be used for utensils in the kitchen, or hold towels in the bathroom, for makeup, or to give anything from baby gifts to Christmas gifts, and thankfully they wound up being great sellers. I also have made oodles of angels from the wallpaper sample pages. One year when I was working at a local hospital in Iowa, we made an Angel Christmas tree and presented our patients with them on Christmas morning, and I've made them for crafts sales and gifts for numerous people. Simple, yet elegant. All starting with one angel my mother bought at a craft sale and asked...."Can you figure out how to make this?" Wish I could sew though. That, has never been my calling. |

My mom was a tailor by trade so I grew learning how to sew. When my kids were little I use to make some of their clothes. Now I just sew for relaxation. I love to sew and just do for myself. Of course when the kids need something mended they come to mom. |
