I have always wanted to learn to knit or crochet. Does anyone know which would be easier to learn? Where or how to begin? Thanks for the help! Tammy |

Do you think it is easy enough to learn from a book? I have no one to teach me. |

I learned from a book. I bought a beginner how to's on crocheting and knitting when I began at Walmart. I know we have others on Divas who do this who might have suggestions to. |

I taught myself to crochet from a book.... for me it was very easy to learn... I think it was called "Teach yourself to crochet"... learn and practice the stitches before making something... |

My left-handed mom taught me how to knit. I'm right-handed!! I sometimes end up knitting backwards. I tried to crochet. The throw can fit a twin bed. I did knit a lot of sweaters for the kids & grankids. |

Getting a self teach book sounds like a great idea. We actually have a Walmart close by too. Thanks everyone! |

I tried knitting once, it drove me nuts so I never gave crocheting any consideration. Check out your local yarn/craft stores for classes. What a wonderful way to meet new friends too! |

I personally think crochet is the easier of the two. With knitting you have to watch to make sure you do not drop a stitch and if you do screw up the crochet it is easier to recover your mistake. Either of them can be learnt from a book. Wal-Mart, Michaels, K-Mart, or Ben Franklin should all have instruction books. |

I think tomorrow during my lunch break I need to check out WalMart and see if I can locate a beginners book on crochetting and whatever else I will need to go with it. A Loom sounds like it would take up a bit more space. I want to have it in a bag I can bring back and forth to work or bring out and sit on the porch in the evenings and weekends during the resort season. Thanks everyone! |

I can do both... I like crocheting better and think it is not only easier to learn but easier to fix mistakes... |

I tried the knitting thing......never could understand it and just wound up frustrating a friend here in Ny who'd just shake her head at me Crocheting however, I learned that when I was about 22, and learned my first thing making...Christmas ornaments. After that I learned a pattern for making crochet blankets and made several baby blankets, and a few for the residents I work with now. But funny thing is....I only know how to do one pattern |

I agree with the rest of the divas. Crocheting is much easier and as Babs and some of the other ladies mentioned, much easier to fix mistakes. Knitting you have to be completely focused, putting a high demand on the brain. I've also been the kind of lady that has to sneak a glimpse of the TV while doing any crafting. Karen |
