Just curious as to who has what and what they enjoy most out of either or both.
My garden has been my sanctuary lately. I can relax and enjoy the quiet time and see what God is providing by food and beauty. My husband and I have large vegetable garden this year that we are sharing with my sister & brother-in-law and whom ever else may need this fall. I'm also working on a layout plan for an English garden. I have always loved the looks of them and I now have a cute little house that I could very easily put one in the front yard. I would love any suggestions for plants for my English Garden so that I have color from Spring to Fall. |

I miss my vegetable garden. Since we live between two homes I can't have one because I couldn't take care of it. I'm not sure what to suggest to add for color. Perhaps check out the nurseries online and find your zone area. I'm sure theres plenty of beautiful flowers and things you could plant in and around it all. |

Well, let's see. We've planted radishes 3 times. Don't think will plant anymore. The hotter the weather, the hotter the radish becomes. But they were good while they lasted. Planted onions. Regular table onions, white onions and vidalia onions to pick later this fall. Yellow & red beets, which I've already pulled and canned. Kolrabi, Green beans, which I'm about to pull the plants, as I getting tired of picking and freezing, them. We have 14 tomato plants of about 7 variations. They are coming on strong and fast, so I'm making sauces, juice and just plain freezing some. (As well as eating them on BLT or as a side.) We have 9 pepper plants. Jalepeno, 2 Habenaros, Yellow Bell, Red Bell, Orange Bell, Green Bell, Serano, Dark Purple. Brussell Sprouts, cantelope, zucchinni, cucumbers, acorn squash. All of which I've been canning and freezing, but now the Japenese Beatles are envading my plants and I'm trying to save them from succumbing to them. My peach tree is done producing. My nectarine tree, has nice ripe juicy fruit, but very few. So just picking them and washing them off and putting the crisper to pull them out as we want one. I had an herb garden on my deck, but the beatles got them too. So, I've had to go to the farmers market and buy my herbs, especially my cilantro. I can't cook with out that or garlic. Some of my apples are ripening and could probably pick by the end of the weekend and start some applesauce and such. My pears are loaded, but they don't mature much before Labor Day or maybe the middle of September. All I know that from the time I get up at 4:45am to the time I go to bed, which often times it is 11:00pm or better, I'm exhausted, but this winter I will really appreciate all the work I've done to put up the produce. We have sweetcorn out at my son-in-law's farm and I will be freezing that tomorrow night. So, I must sign off, so I can get some beauty rest and get up and start at the post office by 7am (which is an hour away, since I am still in training. So I have to leave no later than 5:50am.) I've put up several jars of dill pickles, bread & butter pickles & fruit salsas and pie peaches. Also picked and froze 9 qts. of black raspberries and hopefully, hubby will remember to go out and pick my gooseberries before the deer get them. Tomatoes will be a daily chore until I am plum sick of them. I have one more batch of pickles to get done by tomorrow evening as well. Oh my, I have my hands full. Wears me out just thinking about it. I'm sure I'll get at least one batch of chaw-chaw done before I call it quits w/the tomatoes and hot peppers. You are most welcome to come help me out. LOL. Doe |

Wow,Doe! It sounds like you've got enough produce to open up your own booth at the farmers'market. |

Wow, Doe...my mouth is watering as I read this...especially bread and butter pickles. I'm from the south and reading all the wonderful things you are growing transported me right back to my all my different fam members that still have huge gardens and I am jealous..living in urban Seattle I have to settle with container gardening..but still enjoy it. Is chaw chaw the same as what we call chow chow in the south? |
