I have to admit, I love crafts and trying out new things. I saw this years ago when my kids were wee ones and a friend of mine and I decided to give it a try. And, obviously this won't work in a warm climate, but for those of us who have to deal with the winter snow and cold. In my hometown of Iowa, Christmas Eve, was a big time for the luminaries that lined the sidewalks down mainstreet on both sides for blocks at a stretch. Usually people used paper bags, or milk jugs. This idea was far more beautiful I thought and captured a lot of attention as people drove by ~ Simply fill balloons with water (add a few drops of food coloring if you want color), tie them off and freeze in the freezer. Once frozen remove the balloon and drill a hole in the center and place a candle in the block of ice. Depending on how many you make and how dramatic the look you want, you can line your sidewalks/drive or near an entry with these simple beauties. Another idea ~ using round jello molds or cake pans, you place berries/greenery in water and freeze them till solid. Then simply take some fishing line and hang them from tree branches as you would ornaments on outside trees. |

It would be fun to share Christmas ideas. I used to press Rice Krispy marshmallow mix into a round tupperware container . I hollowed the middle of the "wreath" and decorated with mint leaves and red hot candies. Gave container and wreath as a gift. |

Lol, I hate the gooey part of doing it too Jacki I've made the wreaths 2yrs in a row for our Christmas party at work and they are always a hit. Back in Iowa a friend and I made the easter ones, shaped like indented eggs and used to put the colored coconut and jelly beans for the kids at school. We always were laughing trying to get them made before the mix got too sticky and stiff. Chris loves buying the boxes (which is fine by me) for a breakfast thingy in the mornings when he's out on the road. |
