You're welcome! How is she doing at this point? Any idea when she can go home? |

I put an update on the relationships board. But it will be a very long time, if ever. It is very difficult to stand by and know what her true wishes are and not be a family member to express it to them. Her mom is a wonderful woman. But this is the only kind of life she has known. She cared for her husband for many years after a surgery that had taken place for his gallbladder and this happened, only at that time they did not know until the inccident that he had myotonic muscular dystrophy. This time, surgeons knew that Roz had both the MS and myotonic dystrophy and disregarded the request for a spinal. Now this. I know the surgeon personally, we all do, he grew up with us and he is struggling very hard with this. He feels absolutely horrible. I can't imagine what he is going through. I pray for him, the anethesiaologist and her GP that was in attendance for the surgery. They had the paper work from the neurologist of how to use a general anethesia if deemed necessary, but we have no clue how close the anethetist followed the directions, or if they were even followed. Time will tell and now is not the time to point fingers. I doubt fingers will ever be pointed, because Roz would not want that. When she comes completely off the sedation, we hope that she is able to communicate her desires to her current physicians. She could remain on the ventilater indefinitely or she could possibly try to have a tracheotomy. But if she has lost the use of her upper extremities, the trach will not enhance her life much, because she would not be able to utilize it for speaking purposes. Thank you for your prayers. I let you know more as we go through the motions. Doe |

All you can do now is pray and be there for her. Definitely a hard situation. Hugs! Angelbear |

Doe - thank you for being such a good friend. I know how much it helps the family. My dh has MS, and we've had some issues whenever he's had to have surgery-luckily, nothing as serious as what's happened with your friend.... whoopi |
