On 20/20 last night they did a story on the 13 year old girl from Missouri who commited suicide.  Apparently, she had started an on-line relationship with a person she believed was a young, good looking boy. After being completely wooed by this boy, he suddenly turned on her and started sending her very nasty messages.  She was totaly heartbroken and hung herself in her room.  It turned out that her neighbor's mother created this dream guy just to find out if this girl was saying nasty things about her daughter. They learned this several weeks after the girl's funeral.  The woman who created this boy cannot be punished by the law, because according to their State's attorney, she did not break any laws.  The public, including all their neighbors, are furious, yet nothing can be done.  What do you think about all of this?

It is a sad tragedy.  A woman with a daughter of her own should have thought how emotional 13 year olds are.

On the other hand, exposing the neighbor's names and faces as they did is bound to have a  devastating effect on their own daughter.

They may need a suicide watch on her, too.  At the very least she will need intensive counseling.

We have so much on the news here about it in MO.  Its all so heat breaking for sure but who is to blame??  Yes  a woman got involved with two other teens in doing this internet chatting with Megan but they did not hang her. The girl hanged herself and was obviously very disturbed over many things besides being depressed for years. We all have had to deal with bullies in our life in one form or another but did we kill ourself over it?  The Mother should have had more a watch on her daughter as well knowing she had bouts of depression for years. This is definitley a sad situation with fingers pointing and possibly more tragedy to arise from this considering the town is against the family now.

It is sad that an adult would stoop to such means as this.  I think that parents should be monitoring where and what their children do on the computers more.  There are nanny programs to either block areas that parents may be concerned about or there are tracking programs that can be used to see where a child has gone on the Internet.  In this day and age,  a parent needs to be more responsible to such.

Charlee-She couldn't even be held on mental abuse charges?
This woman goes over the brink of being cruel not to mention immature. She must've been vicious as a teen.

CC, they had the State's Attorney on the show and he said there are no legal laws that this woman broke.  It was a very sad story,  The mother of the dead girl said she was aware of the boy friend her daughter was emailing and I believe she even monitored their conversations.  She said she cautioned her not to become too serious because you can never be sure who is at the other end of the computer line.  Apparently, he started out as a nice person and then turned on her.  While the neighbor did not murder this girl, it seems she should have to face some kind of consequences.
