Since I am sticking around now I had to do some yard work. My roses died this winter. I pulled 5 of the 15 out of the ground so far. I bought some roses and hostas today to plant over the weekend sprucing things up again. I had to buy a weed puller since all mine is packed. I'm just trying to keep busy as I wait for answers on the house which may not be until Monday now. Everyone is not returning calls to our lawyer or realtor. My back and legs are stiff so I am done for the night. Will finish up Saturday. Any of you lose any plants this winter?

My favorite yellow rose bush froze out this year    and some of my bulbs out of my herb garden.

Here in S. Texas our plants bloom all winter.  It was a shock to me this past winter (our first time here in our new home) that even the Cannan's didn't die back...I enjoyed all the winter color but missed seeing the new buds come out.  I think one of the things I miss the most are the bulbs...I miss my tulips!  Here's a pic of one of my bouquets from my flowers...

I never can keep roses alive from one year to the next.  I love them but they are so sensitive that they always die in the winter. I have tried everything...wrapping them, cutting them back and wrapping them...nothing works. I guess I am not supposed to have roses!

Windchimes, your flowers are beautiful!!

I have two rose bushes outside.  Both of them were given to me 9 years ago and they are the small tea roses.  They did not like being indoors at all and I figured that they would not make it outdoors but they are doing wonderfully.  Have even transplanted them 2 different times to other locations.

I love that orange rose, it is my favourite colour. Does it have a scent? Don't you find that the newer roses don't have any scent nowadays!

The roses are beautiful... I can almost smell them. Rose is my favorite flower scent. I like carnations, too.
For the first time in years, we had a freeze which has ruined a lot of gardens.
The only good thing was a cherry tree is producing for practically the first time. Cherry needs a good freeze to produce.

I planted the five rosebushes and hostas and heading up later to get more. My roses were 6 years old. I just don't know what happened this year.

Windchimes-  I love the picture of your roses. Beautiful!

Thank you for the nice compliments on the roses....when we bought the house, I had plans to dig them up and discard them as they looked dead, dead, dead!!!  But I cut them back and added Peters to them and they just came alive and bloom all year.  Yes they are scented...a wonderful floral smell...they are the old rose climbing roses that I have out front around my bay window.

I am a flower nut to the hilt....give me ground...I will plant flowers.  They come before clothes shopping and all the other stuff...lol*  I like to see flowers blooming from each window I walk by in our home.  We are very blessed as we have a canal behind our home and we have a water line hooked up to it and I can water my flowers without running my water bill up.

I agree with everyone...many of the newer roses do not have the wonderful scent of the old roses.  I guess they have been cross-bred too much.  I really don't know why.

I love hosta's too Angelbear....I think they are so pretty - I used to have a whiskey barrel full of them.  In our home back in AR, we had a deck out front and I had a wonderful yellow climbing rose bush climbing up it that smelled like vanilla and had purple clematis planted going up the rail and hosta's under the roses.  The colors together were incredible.  I've never been able to find that yellow rose bush here..  The fragrant was incredible.

I'm sorry for all the one's of you that lost your roses to the freeze.  That would make me so sad too.  Good luck on the new one's that are being planted.

I planred a new rose in last spring/summer  as the one before was a so called bush rose but actually was a rambler  so gave that way and got this new one but not really what I wanted .  this one is  called 'lest we  forget '
wish I had my old roses with me . karl kronenberg -deep red with velvet undersides beautiful scent too . & big bloom
of course 'iceberg ' white and scented- which nearly everyone has here . I had the bush and climber as well .
and 'pascali ' very similar to iceberg but more creamier  & delicious scent .
and my old fave was 'princess elizabeth'  -   a beautiful pink floribunda .
I even got a yellow to flower . tall patio rose . for the first time  but couldnt bring it here as roots were too deep. Wish I  coud've rescued one or more of them .
and tulips too ... so restarting on those . this year although I did try last year  but they rotted . as a couple [in the old home ] we always planted tulips each year so we found masses of them growing everywhere by the time I left to come to this tiny flat and pitiful garden . couldnt save many .   maybe it was meant to be...
                  ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
wish I knew the name of the above apricot color rose in the bouquet . its absolutely my cup of tea .  love it and you are so lucky to have it .. cherish it and she'll grow forever   Annie ...
p.s. to Wanda: note is on my site re colors . these are the best roses I left behind .
