This sounds wonderful! What a beautiful garden it will make.

Have you ever seen those "rugs" of flower seeds that you just water and it grows also? It attracts butterflies as well. I put one in a area that contained mainly weeds and it sure helped tame the weeds down.

Dilly you are a sweetie, thank you for working so hard for me.
Next step dh and I will go over the list and decide whitch ones we want, the area is only 5ft. x7ft.
Did you say I could put some of the butterfly plants in the veggie garden? If so, wont the catipillers or butterfly eat my veggies? I also heard there shouls be a small water thinging for the butterflies so they can drink, have you heard anything on that?
I have seen those flower carpets Angelbear, is that easier for beginners?

Yes you can put some butterfly plants in with the vegetables. Zinnia's and your herbs like the parsely. You can even plant basil with your tomatoes. You will get bugs on your plants but these plants won't draw them to them. You can pick them off. The basil with the tomatoes will keep the tomatoe worm away and make the tomatoes taste sweeter.
About the water for the butterflies. Take a top to a bird bath or the saucer that goes under a flower pot and put some gravel in it. Fill it with water and put in in the flower bed or near it on the ground. In the sun. The butterflies need the sun to warm them.  As simple as that.
Those flower carpets are nice things. and good for beginner. They will save you money too. Until you can buy some plant to put in.
Have fun. any more questions just ask. Some one here will know.
Dilly

The reason I liked it was because you can cut it as well. I would cut areas out and plant things in the ground within it as well. It works out great when you want just a little something and to hold the weeds down. LOL! I have a few in and around some roses also. I have tons of flowers around our home and love to try things. I want to get some chinese plants if they will grow around here good enough. DH is making another planter box for me out by a huge tree of ours and next to our picnic table. I want some colorful, unusal palnts in it his time and will be researching it. I love the plan Dilly has above and will print it out. We tore out a tree last fall nad may put more plants around the area.

Not really Angel... dh decided he will pick out the flowers for "my" butterfly garden, he got 4 different kinds of roses, some marrygolds and a few other things, he told me that it dosn't matter what typ of flower it is cuz butterflies like all flowers.
I gave up and now we have an run of the mill flower garden, it's pretty but it wont draw in the butterflies like I hoped.
MEN...Grrrrrrrrr
