My daughter grows garlic. I store them dry/like onions. If you look at pictures of Italian kitchen they always have them braided together and hanging. I also have stored them in ziploc and they are good that way too. If you store them dry they devlop a more "ripened" taste. |

Yep, TRose, I agree ..... Garlic is usually hung in an open mesh bag.... or as you say in long braids., open to the air and kept in a cool, dry, dark place... out of direct sunlight...not refrigerated. Garlic will keep for a year or so this way. |

Wanda, it probably keeps well refrigerated but it does lose flavor kept that way. |

I have to keep mine in the refrigerator as I don't have a cool, dark place open to the air, the cloves keep a long time refrigerated and they don't seem to lose much flavor. |

Thanks for your opinions, girls. I do remember reading somewhere that the fridge is too cold and can weaken the taste of garlic. I also found something while surfing on the net: a garlic pot! Looks cute & very simple. Kind of like a tiny cookie jar with a few air holes in the sides. I think I'm going to make one when I get to my clay unit at school this fall. |

I did try keeping my garlic and onions out of the fridge but truly saw no difference except the onion didn't seem to last as long. Now I keep them in the fridge. Do you ladies keep your onions in a dark place after you cut it and maybe have some of it left over? |
