We rescued an abandoned kitten a year ago and she has suddenly discovered my houseplants. I know that the plants I have are not toxic to cats, however, she is driving me bonkers when she digs in them. Dirt goes everywhere and she takes great pleasure in pulling on their leaves. I know that animals like to chew on greens, but I'm thinking this cat needs a plant of her own. Any ideas?
I would suggest using something to cover the dirt from the little cutie. Where theres a will theres a way. I covered a few of mine up in the past with decorative rocks and another one with pinecones. Just enough coverage to piss off the cat because you know how finicky they are with their feet. LOL!
I agree w. Angelbear.Little deco rocks over the soil plus a personal plant for kitty.I hear some pet shops sell plants like that.Another thing you can do instead of chasing Kitty away from the plants (& wearing yourself out)is arm yourself with a squirtgun loaded w. cold water.Personally,I've become a "little sureshot"with those things, lol! It'll make Kitty think twice after being squirted a few times
If you have some spare grass seed hanging around, plant the seed in a small container and let that be kitty's plant. You could also look for some catnip seed and grow some of that for your cat.
Great ideas ladies. I'll try covering my plants with pine cones...can get those from the yard. I'll have to check out the pet store for kitty grass, although the catnip sounds like it could be very entertaining...he he
My kitty loved his catnip. One time dh thought he was being funny and sprinkled a little bit on the back of our Barney. Whiskers would not leave Barney alone. I made my dh go give Barney a bath so he could have some peace. LOL!
