Spring is just around the corner and down that long block. LOL That is what I told dh when I sent my seed order in. Am late with it this year. Didn't spend as much as I did last year but enough. Now I can't wait for them to come in and start growing some.Wanted to share some new plants for this year have order some and am going to try them. Here they are just in case some of you would like to try them too.

Rose exotic geranium [called Graffiti Salmon Rose.] the flowers stand above the leaves and looks very pretty in the book.

Aurora Mocha Coleus has pretty peach and chocolate colored leaves [would look pretty with a dark colored leaf plant.]

Color Flash astilbe has multicolored foliage. Very pretty [This I ordered a plant]

Electric Bule corydalis. This is a plant I ordered too. Has lite green leaves and bright blue flowers. Will look pretty around my pond.

All these plants grow in zone 4-6   I hope you all try something new this year. It is fun and exciting to see how it will grow.
Happy Planting Everyone.

LOL well everyone it is spring in my house. I forced some daffs to bloom and have them in the window. Spring is all a state of mind right now. LOL Yes I start my seeds in the house in a sunny window. So when my seeds come they will be started and babied till spring really does come. I'm wishing you happy thoughts of spring and a Happy day.  Spring is really two months away by the calendar but by planting time it starts as soon as my seeds arive in the mail. Planting out then that would make spring three and a half months. Remember its all a state of mind.

I LOVE coleus.....I have grown them every year since way back when I was in high school.....(lol...ok yes yes that was in the seventies...).....I just love the brightly colored foliage.

Penny:  I plant daffodils, tulips, crocuses and hyaceniths in pots in the fall and put them in my unheated garage for the winter. Then come january and february I take the pots out a week or so at a time and have spring right up till real spring comes around

To answer your question I have forced into bloom forsythia, flowering almond [they have pretty pink flowers] and flowering quince even forced a weiglea one time. I have never forced a lilac though but don't see why you couldn't. I think I will try it myself this year.

Here is how to force branches into flower.
Come February on a nice warm day about the upper thirtys - fourty would even be better go out and cut some branches off the bush of your choice. When in the house take a hammer and smash the ends of the branches. This lets the water up into the branch. You can also take your nippers and cut up the stem about a 1/4 of an inch but the hammer is fun. Now take a bucket and some very warm water [not hot] but real warm put your branches in mist them really good and put a clear plastic bag over them. [A dry cleaning bag is good to use] then set the bucket in a dark cool place till you see the flowers coming out or the leaves starting to grow. This will take about a week or two. Take the plastic off and arrange your branches in the container of your choice set it in a brightly lighted room or near a window. I hope it works for you. Let me know if your lilacs bloom out I'm going to try too.  It is great to get a little jump on spring.
        Have Fun
