Laura Herbert  has DYT1 dystonia. Laura was the first person with dystonia to undergo deep brain stimulation (DBS) after it was granted FDA approval in 2003 for treatment of dystonia.

The outcome of her procedure was nothing short of a miracle—and hopefully you'll get to share in her joy (and anxiety, anticipation, and marvel) when DATELINE NBC airs the segment they filmed on Laura, chronicling her progress both before and after her surgery. Laura is a remarkable woman who has been given her life back. She is now able to actively pursue her many and diverse interests free of physical limitations.
