An IUD stands for Intrauterine device. I have never thought much of these when I was younger or now. My neighbor in Missouri, Mom of the baby I took care of sometimes to help them out is in the hospital because of the IUD. Shes been in almost two weeks. She began with severe abdominal pain, nausea and ended up losing one of her tubes, ovary and appendix. The IUD caused a severe infection and they cannot get her temperature down since the surgery. I'm really worried about her. I just sent her flowers. Do you or have you ever used one of these? |

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I've read articles about women having medical problems from using them. I've never used one.....so really don't know very much about them. |

I had one after my second child was born. Was that ever a mistake! I was told that I would have some minor cramping and bleeding...HA I bled for 2 months. I was told that the doctor had to wait until the bleeding subsided before he could examine me then. I ended up having it surgically removed because it had embedded itself into the uterine wall. adair |

Angelbear...I'm sorry to hear of your friend as well! I hope they get her temp down soon! I've heard of these for years, never used one though...I'd heard way too many negative things about them...bad experiences, lots of medical problems later on, so forth and so on. But nothing good. |

I had one years ago. My Dr called it a "Copper 7." Having that thing put in was one of the most painful things I'd ever been through till that point..(in her office...no anesthesia).....and it was nothing but problems afterwards....constant hemhorraging..horrible cramping (all the time) I wanted to try it because I didn't like taking birth control pills....don't like taking any pills, actually, and still don't....(except for my allergy pill.) But it got so bad and I got so sick from it....she was going to remove it.........and I'll spare you the gory details....but my body took care of that before she could. I know women who used them successfully with no problems. Unfortunately, I was not one of them. |

I worked in the medical field and thought those things were horrible. Of course, I only saw the women who were fighting for their lives because of those things. I will pray for your neighbor. What a horrible experience just having had a baby not long ago. Poor sweetie. |

Sorry about your friend. I was one of the lucky ones. Had one after my second son for the same reasons, had enough of the Pill. |

I called her today and she came home this morning. Her temperture is fine now but she is experiencing lots of pain. I told her to walk and walk some more as bad as it sounds. We all know after surgery to get up and move around. Her Dr. told her the same she said. I know the kids need me there to help out with the baby. I told her I would be there a week from Sunday if all goes well. Thanks for your concerns. |

I was always against the principle. It doesn't prevent pregnancy, it prevents a fertilized egg from sticking to the wall of the uterus. A friend of mine had awful problems with hers. sharyn |

I trust those things about as far as I'd trust those Birth Control Patches. As far as I could throw the inventor. |

I had one and several years later had to have surgery to have it removed. Not a fun experience... |
