I am very worried over my sister Sue who I am very close to. She has been a diabetic for about 3 years now. For the past 2 or 3 years she has been diagnoised anemic. Her recent test show she is severly anemic, worse than shes ever been. They want to do some test to check for internal bleeding.
I''m trying to read up on things but it truly worries me more not having knowledge of things.   Isn't there a concern with your kidneys as well when you are diabetic?

Any info would be appreciated.....

We had an inservice for work on it last week. The head nurse got a lot of information from The American Diabetes Ass. Also a representative from Liberty came. They give you the equipment for blood testing. They have a booklet with receipes.
They are in Fort Pierce in Florida. THe free # is1-800-921-9131. They might be able to send you stuff.

I saw things on Google but was hoping someone on here had knowledge of my question. I figured someone who was diabetic would be able to tell me. I know we have several on Divas.

I've only been Diabetic since last July so I am no expert. Still learning about it myself. My dh and I both have type 2 and we control it with diet, exercise and oral meds, some people need insulin. It's a strange disease that affects everyone differently. Google American Diabetes Asoc and also Joslin Clinic. I would be more concerned with the anemia, which I don't know much about. Hope you sister gets good results on her tests and feels better soon.

I am sorry to hear of your sister's sickness and understand your concern for her welfare. My dear friend Dolly has had sugar diabetes for years she is now 80 years old and just lately has had trouble with her kidneys the doctors want her to go on dialathus now She has had a very active life and didnot let her sickness get in her way. She watched her blood sugar constantly and knew when she had to eat some chocolate or when to slow down on her wine. Modern medicine can greatly help your sister I think this is a disease that they know alot about. I hoped this helps you a bit, bandy.

I did peek over at WebMD. I guess I will just have to wait till her tests are done. One of the tests is where she swallows a " pill size camera" to take pictures inside her.

Thanks Jacki and everyone.

Angel be careful reading things on the net it can get you into a right flap.
My hb is still waiting for xrays and scans but today had to go back up hospital they have confirmed he is diabetic and he now has a machine he checks his levels with and he has to eat correctly and such

In answer to your question hb also is having these scans done as they are saying his kidneys are a problem  and blood in urine(might explain the pain)we are going on the doctor we cant get scans til next thursday also they checked his blood pressure again today sky high so a few problems to solve yet he goes tomorow for pills for that and other.
If you have a diabetic clinic close to you like we have i suggest you go there and get information to put you at ease as roaming the net i feel is not right my mother in law does that and gets herself worked up.
Take care angel Min

Angelbear, I have been diabetic for 15 years, hubby is diabetic, and both my parents were diabetic.  I have a pretty good idea about the effects of diabetes.  I, too, have anemia related to the diabetes.  I take vitamin B-12 shots every week.  Diabetes can damage every organ in your body, from your skin to your heart to your kidneys to your digestive system to you nerves to you brain to your eyes, etc.  The higher your average blood glucose, the more damage you can expect.  Hubby has greatly reduced kidney function and some "diabetic dimentia" in addition to heart disease.  I have the anemia and wear a pacemaker.  If you want good, reliable information I suggest you go to the American Diabetes Association website and check out the information and resources there.  If I can answer any specific questions, please feel free to contact me.

Min- You're right. I caught myself getting carried away reading all the info out there.

Eve- Thanks for the info. I know I am really worried over my sister. She was with me in Las Vegas and looked really bad then and had no energy.

Thanks everyone. I will just have to be patient and wait on her results.
