I talked with the clinical nurse in oncology this morning. The PET revealed that the cancer is contained to the one section of lung at this time. I meet with the oncologist this Thursday (July 3rd) and will discuss treatment then. There was also a suspicious nodule in my left armpit but will have to wait until I talk with the Dr. on that to see what he thinks (I had a melanoma removed from left arm last year but the biopsy showed everything was gotten then). I want to thank all of you for your good thoughts, well wishes, and prayers. It is still going to be a long row to hoe before it is all said and done with. |

Besides the one discrete abnormality in the left armpit area, there is also one in the neck. Both of these are extremely small and cannot be biopsied because of their smallness. So the plan of action is that I will be starting chemo on the 11th of July. I will be receiving 3 different chemo medicines during the day (Carboplatin, Avastin, and Taxol). Then another chemo treatment on the 1st of August, and then back out to Sacramento for a PET comparison on the 4th or 5th. Total chemo time per the 2 sessions will be about 8 hours each.
Hopefully, the PET will show that the tumor in the lung has been shrunk considerably and that the 2 discretions will not be present at all. If that proves to be the case, then will start radiation therapy. If the mass has not shrunk enough to suit the oncologist, then there will be at least 2 more sessions of chemo and another PET for comparison.
I guess that in a way it makes sense to approach it in this way; hoping to get the anomalies to disappear at the same time.

Hi Adair! One of my friends had cancer in one quadrant of her lung and they removed that globe. They felt they had gotten everything with that surgery so she did not have any chemo or radiation. She just went for her 10 YEAR!!!! check up and is still doing fine! She is almost 80 now. She had also had a couple of skin cancers taken care of several years before. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I do believe in miracles! TRose |
