Its been a long day for dh and me with our son. He called us this morning letting us know his letter came from the Marines. He received a letter of intent to activate which means he is set to go to Iraq Dec. 3rd. He will report to his unit for a total of 6 days in Aug. He is scheduled to go to California for 3 months training Sept.3rd. I don't understand how they would send him if he wasn't allowed to go to NorthCarolina for two weeks with his asthma. I told JJ to wait and see what happens when he goes for his reserves and see if they talk to him then. Hoping for maybe a paper mess up on their part. This is very upsetting for us. Reading the letter makes it all to real for us. |

My he looks handsome! Not knowing is the worst. Keeps you on pins and needles. If he gets out, does he have a job to return to...or school? |

The military (all branches) seem to have a "hurry up and wait" attitude towards their enlisted members. They do not seem to think about how many other people are affected by that. Hopefully you will be hearing something soon. adair |

I hope they make a decision soon. You certainly don't need anything else to worry about right now. |

So sorry Angelbear that you are going thru this, just getting over being sick and all. The worst is not knowing. My sil is going thru the same things. He's been in the army for 4 years now and was due to get out last June but with the baby and all, he reupped for another 4 months just to keep my dd on the insurance thru the pregnancy. Now tho, his company is due to go to Iraq anytime between October and December........for a year and 1/2 stent. He won't know about his medical discharge either. It was refused by one but another doc said maybe. I am worried and this is only my sil, I can't imagine it being my son who was sent. (((hugs))) to you! |

I am surprised that your Son was allowed in the Military at all if his asthma is that bad. My Oldest Son Matthew has asthma really bad, he scored very high on the test for entry. But when they found out about his medical problems they wouldn't even talk to him anymore. I do know what you are going through and must be feeling. My Son, James, Leaves around the 25th for his second depolyment to Iraq. We are going up to Ft Campbell this weekend to get his car and personal belongings. I am hoping that we will get to spend a good day and couple of nights together and that I don't break down every few minutes. I know I must be strong for him.. He already sounds so sad on the phone when I talk with him. He was home over Labor Day weekend and spent more time with me than he usually does. So.......say a little prayer for me! It is going to be a LONG LONG 15 months. Hugs to you Angelbear!! Sending out Prayers for you.... Cynthia |

Thank you everyone. I am still waiting, no call Monday. Joan- His job will be waiting for him when he is back, thats the law. Robyn- I'm sorry to hear this. He did a good thing by trying to keep the insurance. I hope he doens't have to go. Cynthia- My son did not have asthma his entire life. It developed in Boot Camp when he got pneumonia. Ever since then he has had breathing issues. We'll keep your son in our thoughts and prayers. Hugs! Angelbear |

I must admit we are grinning ear to ear with this news. I don't think I could have taken one more stressful event in my life this soon. I can't wait to go back to Chicago in a week or so and hug my sons. |

Very happy for you! You are right, there is enough stress in your life without adding that concern. The Reserves.. that sounds like a good deal. He should get some benefits for his service. |
