My son JJ called yesterday and was upset. He had appealed the Marines decision to give him an honorable discharge for medical and lost the appeal.. He wanted to stay in the Reserves even though he couldn't go to Iraq but they turned it down. I told him to be honored with what he accomplished being in the Reserves, etc. and that he is and will always be a Marine who got out a little earlier than his buddies. He still has benefits. By late evening he was handling it all better. |

Angelbear, I am so glad to hear that JJ has received an honorable dishcarge....even if it is medically related. He needs to go to the nearest VA and start his paperwork (I think it is called a 1010EZ) to get into the system. Did he tell you which issues they were using for medical? adair |

Adair- They listed his asthma and his hip he cracked in bootcamp. He needs to start paperwork now? Is it more importnat to do it now before he needs to go in again? I don't know much about this. I'm sure there must be alot of paperwork. |

JJ should start the paperwork now so that he can be placed into the VA system and also to go for his disability rating so that any problems that he encounters with his hip the VA will be responsible for in the future. Did they list his asthma as service connected also? adair |

Thanks everyone. He is OK now after it all sunk in and we spoke. Adair- They listed his asthma along with his cracked hip as ocurring at BootCamp and not present prior to. He deveolped pneumonia and several upper respiratory issues in Boot camp and then the asthma developed. He never had it his entire life until the summer in Bootcamp and they recogonized it. |
