Many of you ladies have sons in the service and I wanted to make this board for you to discuss your kids and keep track of it all. So much of it is spread through out the General board. Please feel free to repost anything about what yours sons have accomplished , served in,  feelings you have etc.  If they were in the service and out now please feel free to still post what you like here.

Please feel free to start a new topic about your own son or daughter here and then ad to it as you wish. Let us know the branch of the service he's in and  Rank.

If they are already out feel free to do the same and let us know how they are coping back home now.

Indeed you will, Madame  :-)  I just hope I remember to post on the right board...! LOL

Thanks for asking.....with my only two sons...both in the military....these things...emotionally and physically consume DH and I...and with current situations...we are desperately trying to keep things at a manageable level for our sanity......  (I'm seeing more and more gray hairs!)

The GOOD thing.....we will have BOTH boys...home for Xmas this year!  The first time in 5 yrs!

The BAD thing......oldest leaves for his 2nd tour in Iraq...right after the holidays.

My baby is a soldier now!

...this is my youngest, Benajmin....and this pic was taken on Sept 16, Family Visitation Day, the day before Basic Training Graduation.  His older brother is a Sgt w/the 101st Airborne in Ft Campbell, KY.

The transformation in Ben is dramatic, inside and out.....he left a wild and rebellious 19 yr old....and I was stunned....at the change in him....most especially the way he speaks and moves and the dignity and confidence he exudes now.....and where is all that beautiful strawberry blonde hair?

Like his brother, Ben has taken to the military like a duck to water.

I can feel more gray hairs coming on!    (actually there are only maybe 4-5 on each side, but I earned each and every one of them and as far as I'm concerned they can stay.)

In otherwards Penny, he has become a man.  Its amazing what bootcamp will do to one. I have heard this before. What a cute picture, hair or not. LOL! It will grow back one day when he's out again. Do you know what his next step is now?

Ben is in Maryland now for his AIT Training.  (Advanced Individualized Training.)  This is 10 weeks....and he is allowed to grow his hair back in some there!  After that, he will be home for December, along with his older brother and for the first time in years we will be all together for Christmas.

In Jan, Randy (oldest) who has been in the military for 6 yrs, leaves for his 2nd tour in Iraq.  Ben will be doing more training.  He will be working with and flying Blackhawk Helicopters.  He was told to expect a deployment to Iraq as well.  My oldest (who supervises Apache technicians) contract is up for renegotiations, and he has been offered an amazing re-enlistment bonus, and actually would like to re-enlist, as he likes his work, but along with many soldiers, is awaiting results of the election.  If it goes one way, he will re-enlist.  If it goes the other, he will get out of the military, as he says many will, who are also up for re-enlistment.  I guess most people know who the military supports, and I will not get into the political stuff.  Also, at this point his position is considered in "critical" status, meaning he cannot get out of the military even if he decides to leave, until such a time as his position is no longer in critical status.  If he leaves, he will come home and go to college for an aviation engineering degree....and perhaps...if circumstances are right...will return to the military sometime afterward.

My parents' living room looks like a military shrine...with military photos everywhere.....at this point they have 4 grandsons in the military.....and next year will have 5.  They also have huge maps in their office, world and US, and they have different styled pins for each grandson, and they mark each place each one has been.  We are very fortunate to have very involved and supportive family..grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins...all...as well as the girlfriends, of course, ..the boys get many letters every week, and I know that has done so much for their morale...

I guess I should have had a clue.....through all those years...of the boys enthusiasm for military aircraft and vehicles, and all the military toys they had to have, and books and sweatshirts....!  Who knew?

What a handsome young man your son is. It will be wonderful for you to have them both home for Christmas. I wish them all the luck in the world. When they come home give them hugs for us. We are proud of men in uniform. I have two of my own a son in the Navy and a grandson in the National Guard.

Thanks, Ladies....I appreciate the kind words.

Yes, we are very proud of both the boys....

Angelbear, Yes, I guess that is it....he left a little boy and has turned into a man....which is wonderful and also emotional for us Moms, eh?  I know you know....

Dilly, where is your son stationed?  and your grandson?  I am sure you have lots of nice military pictures in your living room as well....  :-)

Thanks, Jackie....yes, it will be wonderful....to have them both home for Christmas.  We will be having many many people for the holidays as all the family will want to be around and all their friends, etc.....so we will set up half a dozen picnic tables in our garage and plan a big buffet!  (the boys love that)  So lots to look forward to and plan...

My son David is 18 and this spring joined the Air Force Reserves.  I had very mixed feelings about it, but we are all extremely proud of him.  He made it through basic training, and my husband, youngest daughter and I made it down to San Antonio for his graduation.  I about lost my heart when I saw him for the first time in seven weeks.  He had grown up and matured - and seemed so tall!  He's over six feet anyway, but I guess it's that military posture

David's father, my ex, is retired military but is over in Iraq now as a civilian because of his specialty.  His oldest son Robert is in the National Guard and is being deployed to Iraq at the end of Sept.  Everyone is extremely worried about that because he is in transportation..drives trucks.   David leaves for tech school in Texas Nov. 1 for 13 weeks, then to Northern California for six more weeks.  He's going to be a med tech.  Then, hopefully, he can get back into college (he graduated high school early and already has a few semesters behind him), put in his weekend a month, and manage to not be sent overseas just yet.  Lots of prayers!
