Reposting this here-- JJ- is done with his training as of yesterday and will be home at midnight. I am picking him up at the airport this time and he is spending the night at my home. I'll let you know how it all goes. He called me on the way to the airport and told me he's missing the guys and base already. If he feels like this in a month or two he will sign up for active duty. He doesn't feel just doing one weekend a month for the next 8 years will satisfy him. He feels the Marines is good for him. His Sgt. told me that if we hear on the news they need troops in Iran then JJ's unit will be made active automatically. Otherwise, JJ will definitely go to Iraq in a year or so when his unit is ready again. So it doesn't matter if hes active or not, the Marines send everyone over I was told. I'm numb with it all so far. I know we support his decisions with that. The flipside of things on JJ's and my relationship is on a time to time basis. He is the same guy in that aspect pretty much and I expect it to get worse once he's living with them in that house again. Time will tell all that happens. I keep trying to accept him as is and I have not caused any arguments but I sure have had to bite my tongue alot and find a way to end conversations. |

Last night went fine. I was so excited to see him at the airport. He spent the night at my home and we talked till about 4:00am. He showed me hundreds of pictures from his time in SanDiego and told me lots of things. I am very proud of his accomplishments. I know my son will end up going active on his own soon. He spoke alot about it. He has to do what he feels is right and we will be there for him. So the visit together was wonderful. I dropped him off where he lives this morning. With him living where he is will always be a issue for us. He plays them against me and me against them usually. It shows in how he talks to me and what he says when he knows they can hear him. Time will tell. |

Angelbear, I am so glad you had a good visit with JJ ! I was hoping it would be. Sounds as if you have a natural Marine on your hands, there, Mom. Some people are well suited to and love being in the military---both of my sons do....my oldest loves everything about the military......(except the inevitable deployments to Iraq.) Sounds like your JJ is pretty well suited to the lifestyle too. I'm glad things went well for you this time....you sure deserve it....you've been through so much. |

This is very upbeat. I am so glad that time has healed and things are going well. I sure understand your concern on him being on active duty. We will surround him with our good wishes and prayers. |

I happy to hear you were able to pick your son up at the airport.... It gave you and hin some time along together to talk.... You were hte first to hear all about basic training and everything else... He sounds like he has become a fine young man and he likes the military.... I can't say I know how you feel as a mother about his decisions in the military..... But we are very close to one of my sons friends who is in Iraq now and I worry about him all the time..... We are always happy when he calls to say hi..... I will keep your son in my prayers..... jewel |
