We took Barney to the Vet tonight. He got his yearly shots and check up. Barney has alwys weighed under 8 pounds. They weighed him at 11.6 tonight. The Dr. said he has alot of fluid on his lungs. He put him on something to help control his BP because his breathing has been getting rapid. We will increase his Lasix also. The Dr. said Barney has surpassed his lifespan for a poodle which shows the care he gets at home. Barney is very spoiled for sure. He told us to keep him on his meds and walk him when its not to hot outside. He's very calm this evening and I'm not sure why. It could be the new heart meds. or he is not feeling well from all his shots. His breathing is calm for sure. Have you had a dog that had Congestive Heart Failure brought on by old age? |

Ah, sweet Barney. This is hard to read because your love for him has been evident in your posts. I am so hoping the meds regulate him, take the fluid off his lungs. Get lots of rest, take fluids, Feel better, Barney |

I hope Barney feels better soon..... hopefully the meds will do their jpb ..... Have never had congestive heart failure with any of my dogs.... two of my cats are on heart medication for enlarged hearts.... one is at least 14, he was a stray that I took in and the other is one that I adopted from the shelter in Oct. and he is about 9. he is a Bengal..... was not sure what breed he was but Dr. confirmed it... and he has all the Bengal traits..had him at the Dr. on Mon..... he must have injured his back so he is on pain meds. today is the last day for the med..... I know you are like me, we aorry about our pets... |

Poor Barney! I feel so sorry for the little fellow. I remember how his poor little lungs sound trying to get air. At least he has a good "mom" that has been taking such good care of him that he has lived past his expected lifespan. I hope the meds improve his situation and that he is more comfortable now. |

Barney is so lucky that his family that cares so much for him and is so attentive and in tune to his needs. Maybe he seems so much calmer because he's feeling better....because the medication is helping? I've never had a dog have congestive heart failure....but I do have an older dog that is experiencing a lot of age related problems and it's difficult to see and go through....When they are feeling poorly or not quite themselves.....to me it's the same as if it were any other family member. I hope he's feeling better and more comfortable now. |

Maybe the BP medications have calmed him down. One of my brothers had to put down a dog because it had an enlarged heart but I really do not know anything about CHF in dogs. Sending Barney lots of well wishes, adair |
