We had to take Barney to the vet today, poor baby. Last night I noticed some blood and more this morning on the couch and chair but couldn't see anything wrong with him. The vet said he has a gum disease and put him on antibitotics. Bleeding is coming from one gum area and his little nose. We will keep him on antibitotics for two weeks then take him back in. They will then do a xray on his chest and see how it looks. If its clear they will consider putting him out to take care of his teeth. He has congestive heart failure so they really don't want to put him under.
I called the vet back today. We woke up to blood everywhere. Way to much to me for a little dog and call it gum issues. I am taking him in the morning and leaving him at the vet for tests to be done. The Dr. feels possible it could be internal or even a nose polyp, just not sure. The blood is more than just a gum issue though for sure. When we went to the Vet Monday his regular vet was not in that knows Barney and that is who I spoke with.
Awww...and you just feel so helpless.....worse than a child, almost, cuz they can't tell you WHAT'S wrong!....Hugs for you Angel...dealing with Barney's illness! TRose
The Vet did blood work and x-rays. Barney has an enlarged heart with a mass on it, a pinched trachea with a hole in it, his heart is compressing down on his ribs and his liver enzymes are elevated. The Dr. told me if we didn't go ahead with the surgery Barney would continue to suffer and get worse. If we did the surgery he may not come out of it. We chose to take the risk and do the surgery. They removed his infected teeth and he did do OK so far. We brought him home and he is bleeding alot still from the surgery. The Dr. said if the blood clots and the bleeding is gone by at least Thursday or Friday then the bleeding issue was the teeth. If not its internal and with his other issues we will have to make a decison then. We will wait and see when Friday comes. He is pretty much out of it, drugged up good. He peeks at us once in a while but other than that he is sleeping it off. They gave him extra valium as well. The vet said regardless of anything his time is limited to maybe a few months to go on like this with the mass and trachea. A very sad day for us all the way around. Angelear
Angelbear I'm so sorry about Barney. I have one kitty left of the 5 I came to Az with. I love animals and hate to even hear things like this. I feel so much for you. Please take care.
