I think making a headboard is a great idea. I've seen a lot on the home shows. You can change whenever you want. You'll have to take pics. |

My daughter had a beautiful old door that was left in her house...6 panels in it. She hung it sideways just above (but touching) the top of her bed. It was really cute. I've also seen old shutters used. TRose |

Charlee, Just a wild idea here...you're an art teacher right? How about adding some of your personal art to the walls like some people who are blessed with talent do? (I am NOT one of those individuals) You have time before school starts again...and no doubting Thomas around to tell you how silly your ideas are....A lot of men I know have a really hard time appreciating the creative muse in their women ! No time like the present to relax and let inspiration flow! LOL |

I'm not sure of the dynamics in your marriage, but this scenario sounds familiar. My son 26 has a number of friends some married as Ben is and some with partners. It was sheer chance that one of the girls overheard about a BBQ that had been organised, but her husband and my sons had neglected to tell their wives. It wasn't any conscious plan to keep it from the girls, just we have to remember that men think differently from us.!!!!! |

I picked up some paint sample cards today and hope to start my project on Tuesday. Figure I'll need to get furniture moved away from the walls, etc. Heaven only knows what I'll find under his chest of drawers. I've STILL got more throwing out to do before I can begin to paint. This is going to be work, doing it by myself, but I'm determined, so I'll get it done. Thank you all for the ideas for a headboard! Gena, good suggestion about doing my own thing. Actually, if I had more time, I would consider painting a headboard on the wall (frame and all). I'm still trying to come up with something that won't be too time-consuming. I like the idea of mounting found objects (shutters or an old door), because I love recycling. Keep the ideas flowing in, girls, I'm still open to suggestions! Thanks again! |

I used an antique, 2 man ice saw mounted on the wall where a headboard would be, about 4 feet feet above the mattress. In the space between the bottom of saw and the mattress I've hung 2 framed, metal engraved world maps, 18x24 or so, and under them., 3 small frames with mounted leaves. the whole space is about what a headboard would be. You could hang anything interesting- just do it in the space a headboard would take up, and make sure it's flat tto the wall. you don't want to "clunk" your head sitting up in bed. |

Lindush, great idea! I'll have to scout around to see what I can find. I LOVE the idea of the saw, but it may be difficult to come by. How convenient it would be, hanging right over the bed: when I get really pissed at dh, all I have to do is reach up, take down the saw and................. Well, girls, the room is now freshly painted GREEN and I love it! DD and her bf came over last evening and moved my furniture away from the walls and helped take down everything that was hanging on the walls. I got up early this a.m. and taped all the woodwork, laid down drop cloths and started painting. Took a break twice and had the entire room finished by mid afternoon. I'm loving the color...it's a really pretty soft green! Heading out to the mall tomorrow to see if I can find some new drapes and perhaps something new to hang on the walls. |

Well, my shopping spree was really enjoyable. I bought 2 new lamps for our nightstands, new sheers and new drapes (they're a khaki color and I thought they'd look good with the comforter which contains khaki and different shades of green). I hung the drapes, but may exchange them for more color. Looks a little too bland against the soft green on the walls. Oh, I forgot to mention that I also bought 2 pairs of shoes (I HAD to buy a pair of green Crocks) and I also picked out a new top to wear with my new capris. Still working on the headboard. Keep the ideas flowing girls...I'm all ears! |
