I'm with all of you. I plan on exercising more and losing weight. I really don't have any health issues but need to do things to help me stay healthy as I get older.

It looks like a lot of us are trying to watch our weight. Ugghhh! Is anyone interested in talking about it on this thread? I was reading in Oprah this month that there are actually blog sights where people blog about there days and their diet adventures. One site has 60,000 members! Now I am certain that my diet adventures are not the stuff to inspire thousands but I do know that I have gotten encouragement on many other topics from you ladies. What if we checked in on each other here? Have we tried that before? Just a thought. I finally made it back to the gym today after being so sick for a month. I was certain I had gained weight, but had lost another 4lbs. Guess I will keep trying. It was also great to hear Joan has lost the 10lbs. that she was working on...Good luck to everyone. Gena

As of this morning I am down  12.5 #'s!!!

I am happy about it.  My incentive is a family reunion on my Birthday in April.
If I didn't have that I don't know when I would have gotten back on track.
Today a daughter sent me a box of candy for St. Patricks day. eeeeeek!
The saving grace is that the calories are marked so if I just indulge a little bit I will be OK.

I could never survive on the low carb diets,  but that's me.  Gotta have some sweets.
One of my better indulgences is Carnation fat free hot chocolate with a Tbs. of marshmallow from a jar.   It satisfies the sweet and chocolate craving.

I think its a great idea to check in here on what you're feeling and doing.

Joan- Have the chocolate for breakfast if your worried. I do thta sometimes and figure I will work it off during the day so I don't feel guilty.

I have about 10# stuck on me that won't budge.  I figure if I could tone up the mid section it would be better.  It's getting out there and exercising that's the problem.  Anyone do Curves here?  A friend and I are thinking about starting up at the one here in town.

I think I read that Jacki does curves? Could be wrong, but someone here does! I just started going back to the YMCA. All I do right now is the treadmill. Sorry to say but I had to start really slowly. It is okay though...I have built up to over 30 min. per day. I was pretty mortified at first that I had lost so much stamina. It is pretty cool because you can watch tv. I listen to my mp3 player and that makes time go faster. I also need to have a little bit of something sweet. Amazingly, I can do with just a taste. For some reason this time I really want to get healthy and I believe I can do it. Seems more realistic when its not just about looks anymore. (That boat has sailed, I think!) Oh well another day has passed and hopefully another pound :) Happy Losing to all! Gena

Bluebyrd,

I was manager of Curves in AR when we lived there for three years.  It is a wonderful program and very successful.  I found most ladies lost inches easily by coming four days a week...that 4th day a week workout did so much more than just the three days.

I would recommend visiting and having a free trial workout at the Curves near you....see how you like it!  There are managers of Curves (like in every business) that are good and will get out on the floor and really motivate you.  I've visited some Curves where the help just sit behind the desk and don't do much.  I was always on the floor with my members and made sure each member knew exactly how to get the most out of their workout...understood the machines....made sure heart rates were being taken....and that stretches were always done at the end of the workouts.  I often brought in nutritional speakers....and also offered a low-impact class at 7:00 after we closed.

Wishing all the best.....when our bodies are strong...our spirits are strong...and it's the one thing we can do for ourselves....no one else can do it for us.

Hugs...Windchimes

Would you mind speaking a little about heart rates here. I know it is important to reach a certain heart rate to burn the most calories, but I also know it is important to exercise safely as well...I'd appreciate a little info if you have time. Gena

Doesn't it just drive you nuts that some men can eat and eat and not gain?!  My dh is one of them.

I am trying to keep up with my exercise and watch what I eat.

Angelbear- you prepare your own food- Curves does have cereal and energy bars in the stores in most areas. We weigh in every month and also get measured- they also check your body fat.
