Well I just had a yearly physical exam .  My doctor's nurse called yesterday to say my bone density is worse since 2 years ago.   I am to take more calcium (now 2 times a day).

I also have high cholesterol.  I must watch my butter intake and etc what I eat.  I told her I DID NOT want to go on cholesterol medicine - I don't trust them.  The doc had mentioned FISH LIVER OIL capsules.  I am trying them.

I also must cut down on my sugar intake and do exercises.  I already dance 2 times a week for about 2 or 3 hours and I do an hour of Yoga a week.  I ride my bike around the block four times 1 or 2 times a week.  I also am on the go all the time (but I guess that doesn't count).

Are there any other suggestions from anyone?

Martha

It sounds to me like you are doing all the right stuff.  I 'm with you on no meds.  My cholesterol is ok.  I watch what I eat and always start with some kind of cereal in the morning that is suppose to help lower cholesterol......like oatmeal or something.  For the past 2 years I've been on hormones and I'm weaning myself off them this month.  I'd rather do the natural stuff then take meds.

It seems so unfair that with all women have to deal with....we also have bone density to worry about.  I'm due for my test this month and hope it is good.

It sounds like you are doing good at working with it meyshaw....and I'm with you.  I'll do anything not to take the cholesterol meds.  Mine last time was right at the border line.

The only thing I can suggest for the bones is....

" I read that bicycle riding is good for cardiovascular but does not really help the bones as it is not a bone building exercise.  If you can add a couple of days doing hand weights (even the three or five one's.....that would help with the bones.  Also...lots of walking."

Good luck to you.....to all of us at this age!!!

I have no problem with bone density but  I've had high cholesterol for years and I am on medication because I'm one of the unfortunate people who just manufactures it no matter that I eat no fat, no dairy, no this, no that LOL  I haven't had beef or pork in ages, I exercise every day, I'm not overweight but I'm still just below borderline.  Life is so unfair

I had to go to my dr. today. I've taking med to lower my cholesterol. My dm had it even tho she watched what she ate & got plenty of exercise. My best friend & her mom are low but eat what they want. I think some people are more prone to it.
I have to get the results back to see if it went down with the med.
Does the fish oil pills cause any problems or taste bad? I thought of taking them.

Martha- Congratulations on getting your yearly exam, so important to do. Calcium is important to take as we get older. I am on Calcium and try to buy products high in calcium as well. I take meds for my cholesterol. I was only 5 points over the normal but with everything else happening in my body including high stress levels right now my Dr. wanted me on them. She will monitor it and down the road I will be able to go off them.

Windchimes- good info on the bike riding and weights. I would include walking to.
