I will not watch the show because of the verbal abuse.  I believe decent people should not find that entertaining.  When agreat talent comes out of the show we hear about it.

Divas - I agree with almost all of you in terms of the negative side of the judges abusive "no's" (except for Paula).  However, I really enjoy the show because I love music and musicals. I think what I really do not like is the expression on Simon's face when a person of size enters the room .  I somehow think he thinks the only marketable type person in music is someone underfed and able to made up cosmetically.  As we all know...sex sells.  It hurts me to see persons of size be discriminated against in public, yet on national tv????  As another note, perhaps for another conversarion, if I see Martin Lawrence play one more role as a heavy woman to be laughed at...I going to throw out all the previous movies of him I have and boycott anything else he does.    OK..I've said enough.  Lov all the D's P.S.  Thanks for support and good info today.

I love Simon, purely entertaining for me with a few exceptions.
Paula- Thats a different story. She acts like she has the hots for every male contestant and is not always there LOL!
Randy- is cool

Bentwinged-Angel- I truly find the show purely entertaining. I have watched every season of American Idol. I know Simon is harsh with some things, moreso then the others but its ratings. As each year has past the contestants have gotten stranger in every way. Those are the ones who know they can't sing, come on for the attention and know Simon will react, its all expected. Thats why its Reality TV.   I take none of his comments to heart and I'm sure the majority of people he says them to don't either. I think what started this all was back early in the seaon of AI  with
William Huang        This article says it all. LOL!! After him the weirdos came out in groves for the show!

I am very disappointed with the show this season.  Instead of showing the talented people they seem to be concentrating on the argumentative ones, and the "non-singers".

My daughter was telling me she saw on one of the morning talk shows that the young man with the large eyes Simon had made fun of has a disease that causes his appearance.  And, the heavy set young man that had become friends with the above mentioned young man was autistic.

I also got really upset (as did my husband) when Simon made fun of the Asian woman's name (Phong) when he couldn't pronounce it correctly.  He said something to the effect of "Ping Pong" or whatever your name is.

As for the comments about Taylor, I initially liked him, but as the show progressed he seemed to be caught up in himself.  I also thought his singing wasn't as good as it was in the beginning.  I didn't vote for him for several weeks up to the time he won.  I was very disappointed that Chris Daughtry was sent home so early.  But, it seems that it helped him more then hindered.

Gee... I always thought I was semi decent anyway.... lol... love the show... love it.. love it.........LOVE IT....

Marketing is all about enticing people to watch your program... they show the auditions of mostly bad singers because it can be amusing... now think about the woman who was just so sure they should put her on the show just so they could teach her to sing... if you paid any attention you could tell the woman was most likely off her rocker to begin with... if these people want their bit on TV... and they actually listen to themselves and think they can sing there is no way you can stop them from putting themselves in such a position...

Personally I have always thought that the reason they show the auditions that are bad is to show what they weed through to come up with truly talented people like Kelly Clarkson... Bo Bice....  Chris Daughtry... and whoever your favorite might be... think about it...

and... sure I think Simon goes to far sometimes but the man is who he is... and yes... don't watch the show if it bothers you.... but it doesn't mean that people who do enjoy it are bad...

I hate and despise football... I think it is archaic, stupid and a huge waste of time and money... now how many think I am going to get anywhere by telling about 90 percent of the men I know that they are bad for watching football...

LOVE AMERICAN IDOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought of myself as a bad person either, but I still enjoy watching AI and even football!!!  LOL  And I agree...if you don't like it don't watch it!

For the last two weeks on Thursday night, Larry King has had past Idol contestants on, winners and losers!  What I found interesting this past week was when Bucky (remember him???) said that in the contract that everyone who auditions signs, there is a clause that states that if there is something "funny" about you, you could be made fun of!  So, all of these kids, if they read what they are signing and have seen the show before, know exactly what they are walking into!!!  As for the large number of bad singers this year, who knows what's going on!!!

But I don't think the judges are as bad as some of the contestants who seem to be getting bolder with every season!  I mean with the language they use that has to be "bleeped" out and flipping off the judges or bending over saying "kiss this!" because they aren't good singers and were told so...now that's poor taste and going way to far if you ask me!!!  And if I were the mother of ANY of those kids, there is no way I'd be proud of them or their actions!!!  If anything, I'd be ashamed and very disappointed in them!

So, let's not lay all of it on the judges...I don't think I'd want to be in their place at all!!!

LOL Lori........I would trade places with those  judges any day!
I'm guessing they get paid very well to sit there and goof off like that....lol...but I'm also guessing I wouldn't last long as a judge...because I cannot and will not treat people like that.

I agree with you all who say there does seem to be a growing number of belligerent people trying out.....and a couple of them....I actually wondered if they were "plants" for entertainment purposes..they were so far out there..and a few instigate and keep the crap going themselves.  In those cases.....like our friend Rosie O'Donnell...I say....you deserve what you get.

I like most of the show...and I watch it...but I do cringe.....when Simon gets vicious....and forgets he's there to judge singing...and not physical appearances....but I've come to understand that for whatever reason....a large part of the viewing audience....likes to hear and see that kind of thing.....otherwise it wouldn't be tolerated.......so I use those times when it gets ugly to get up and get a drink or change the load in the washer/dryer...or take the dogs out.  I cheered Paula when she called him a jerk and smacked him one this past week....lol.

I especially enjoyed the young woman who came in her military bdu's...I liked her voice.....and also the brother and sister....who both tried out and made it...and the two young girls who were best friends...........had my fingers crossed for them....what an uncomfortable trip home that would have been if one had made it....and one hadn't!  But as of yet....none of the contestents have "grabbed me" .......the likes of Chris Daughtry and Fantasia Barrino.  But I'm sure there are more out there.....

Their visit to Alabama last night for the most part showed some mannerly contestants, thanking the judges for the insults, etc.. What a night! The 50+ woman trying to say she was only 26 in the bright yellow feather outfit! She was a riot!  A few talents came out of it. My dh's singing in the shower sounds better and better to me as I watch the show. LOL!!

Lori- I saw that show as well. They know all this up front and I believe thats why the strange ones keep popping up.  I love the show completely because it is entertainment. I don't believe anyone is truly hurt through any of it. They know ahead of time and I believe they do it for more camera time. It reminds me of when I would go to the Hockey games. I enjoyed it more when they got into fights and let loose on the court. An added touch to the great game. If people don't like it for some reason then can turn the channel. My dh and I love awaiting what Simon will say or do next. He makes the show and the ratings along with the weird contestants.

Did anyone hear where someplace in Las Vegas, I believe, made Paula "Woman of the Year"???  After the interviews she's done so far this year, I'd have to wonder about the choice!!!  LOL

This morning on the radio, they said that the exec. producer of the show has asked Courtney Love if she would like to be a guest judge on the show.  Now, I'm not big on her, but they were joking on the radio that the show needs to raise the "wierd" factor...it has Paula, but if you add Courtney it will be even wierder!!!  I'd have to agree!

Ok, for those of you who watched tonight's show, how many of you cried when the 65 year old gentleman sang for his lady who had passed away?  I did...I'm glad they let him sing...I'm just sad that his lady didn't live long enough to hear him.  And, I was so happy when Simon said he wanted to shake his hand...that had to be the most touching moment on any "Idol" show I've ever seen.  And to top it off...he had a great voice.  I know his lady was there watching and listening.

Also, for those who want to watch it, Larry King is going to have another show on Thursday with past "AI" contestants.

I so agree with your Lori.  I think it was great that they let the gentleman sing and that Simon wanted to shake his hand afterward.  He did have a nice voice and I am sure that his love heard him.

Definitely a kleenix moment for me! The story was so loving and he wasn't a bad singer. The judges felt it to. How did you like the contestants that "BEGGED" the judges to give them another chance?? How pathetic! Thats Hollywood who won't take no for an answer. LOL!!

I was so touched by that gentleman...and he had such a nice voice....I was sitting here crying...lol...I'm such a sap that way...I was just a wreck.....lol......and for once Simon had the sense and class to keep his obnoxious mouth under control...I was proud of him (I'm guessing one of the show's prescreeners tipped him off beforehand...).  That was an amazing moment worth watching on the show and I'm glad I didn't miss this gentleman's singing.

Courtney Love?   ...lol...Courtney Love?...that would add all the class to AI....that adding Rosie O'Donnell to The View did.  But I guess the producers know what they want.  I did enjoy Olivia Newton John last night...

I don't understand the contestents that refuse to leave, just continue to beg and beg...some of them I feel sorry for...because it's obvious they truly believe that the judges are making a mistake.....and others...I think...are just enjoying carrying on and their five minutes of fame on tv.....but I think that stuff all takes away from the show.  I think next season....to avoid this...and all the stuff from Simon that I hate...I'll not watch till the audition part is over....between the judges and the bizarre contestents...it's turning into a freak show sometimes.  It's listening to the new talent that I really love...

Anyone see the Larry King show with the American Idols? They had  Ace, Kelly Pickler, Rubin, Latoyla as the returning ones. Then they had the old guy singing and talking about his love that died. They had the gal on who BEGGED them to give her a chance.  Also the last contestant to perform where Simon ran after him up the stairs. LOL!!!  He was a riot. Its all such an act for the viewers.   Did anyone think that maybe Kelly and Ace might have something going on?

I was hoping someone besides me saw Larry King last night!  I had to laugh at the guy that Simon ran after!!!  He was soooo funny and fun to watch since he didn't take himself seriously!  I didn't think that about Kelly and Ace, but I do think Ace would be the perfect model for a toothpaste commercial!!!  LOL  My mom says his smile looks too fake!  I was happy to hear about LaToya's success!  I always liked her, too!  I loved the song that Sherman (the old guy) sang to Kelly...he seems to be a very special man.
