How nice to have you join us. I will agree that there is a great difference in Nevada and Kentucky. How long have you been there? I have traveled to Lexington many times and was always overwhelmed by the beauty of the long stretches of beautiful green pasteurs lined by tall trees and seeing the horses grazing all over. I travel to Las Vegas every March and love it. We come in for our sons Martial Arts-Taekwondo National tournament held at the LV Convention Center off the strip there. Are you in Las Vegas or another city there? Your receipes are welcomed here, please post them in our Receipe heading to the left in the column. What made you interested in odd receipes? With the condition you mentioned then having your computer is a great plus for you for an outlet to be busy. Whata  nice size family you have.
I am 49, married 22 years this month and have two teenage boys, 16 & 17. I am a stay at home mom still but would love to get out again and work or return to school, just something more to do for me. I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago. I was raised and lived in Phoenix,Arizona for over 30 years before moving. I miss it tremendously. I love to work with my roses and various plants and am looking forward to spring getting here. It's teasing us but it's still pretty cold going into May for us.  Please join us often.   Wanda

We have a lot of fun on here and we're open to hearing about any beauty tips, anti-aging info, and anything else you want to share with us.      Looneybird

Hi there Chris and thank you for the warm welcome.

My kids are 32 (daughter), 29 (son), and 19 (son).

Where in AZ are you?  I used to live on the west side of Phoenix...almost in Goodyear.  When we lived there we would call my mother back in KY and tell her that we were getting ready to eat Thanksgiving dinner on the back porch....the few times that KY was warmer than AZ she was sure to call and go NAH NAH NAH NAHHHH NANA.

None of my family has come to visit me out here and have been living here for almost 6 years.  My middle brother was in Reno ( 2.5 hrs away) last spring for a convention so I went down there to visit with him.

I am engaged to a man whose career is in mining and we came out here to so that he could work at one of the numerous gold mines in the area.

As for my unusual plants;  I have  zigzag plants (otherwise known as Devil's Backbone) that is  a succulant, 3 coffee trees, an Angelwing begonia, 2 avocado trees, and small startings of Jacaranda trees.....all of these are in the house.  I also have 2 different ferns, a ginger plant, ivy, cornplants, ponytail plants, philodenrom, a rubber tree, and a bamboo plant.  I am told not to bring any more plants but, I swear, they call to me and demand that I bring them home  I keep trying to convince my fiance that we need to either get a greenhouse or build a solarium onto the house so that I can have a good place to put all the plants and start vegetables.  He is not listening to me though!!!!

Will try to start posting recipes here within the next week.

Adair

Hi Wanda and thanks for your welcome also

It will be 6 years next month since I moved to NV.  We are in the northern part of the state......2.5 hrs to Reno, 5 hrs to Salt Lake City, 5 hrs to Boise, and 12 hrs to Vegas!  Needless to say, I do not go to Vegas.  The town I am in is Winnemucca (named after a Pauite Chief)....population 7000.  Pretty much a small town; but we have the casinos here and 5 brothels

We get to put up with range cattle coming onto the property and eating the bushes.  For some reason, the range cattle like getting out onto the roads here and so it makes it interesting driving around at night....damned cows are hard to see in the dark!  For the last two years we have been battling Mormon Crickets (nasty nasty bugs that devour everything).  I sure would love to neither cattle nor crickets bugging me this year but am sure I will not be that lucky.  Do not think I will be putting out garden this year....I am going to plant some tomatoes out under my maple tree and then put a bug barrier up to try to save them from the crickets.

Do you remember what parts of Lexington you traveled to or traveled through?  I was raised on Almahurst Horse Farm just outside of Lexington....on the Nicholasville Road.

You're town seems small as you said but you are close to many things. Casinos are fine but stay out of those brothel houses, stick to your gardening. LOL!

Since your fiance is into mining, do you live on ranch like property? I was just wondering because of the cattle walking around.  Have you ever hit one of the cows?Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! When will this happy event take place?
These Mormon crickets don't sound to pleasant. I found a link on them.

I saw so many beautiful horse farms while traveing to and from Lexington. I would have to get my map out to tell you if the road you mentioned was in my pathway.  So many of these farms had huge homes attached! Were you raised in one of those?I always come in the back way through the farmlands to get to the center of Lexington. We  stay at the downtown Lexington Hyatt Regency where are tournaments are held.  Marcie on here lives in Kentucky somewhere.

The plants you mentioned are very unusal. Have you ever gotten into Bonsai? I tried it before. It's nice to get unusal plants for that as well. I will be looking forward to seeing your receipes in the near future.  Wanda

Hi there Marcie....

Campbellsville is not too far from where most of my family lives now.  Have an uncle living between Mitchellsburg and Parksville (on the Lebanon Road) and my youngest brother lives in Princeton.

I make a yearly journey to KY to visit my daughter and grandkids, and to see different family members.....maybe we can plan to meet up for a cup of coffee.  Am waiting to hear from one of my nieces as to when she can come up from TN for a weekend get together in KY....when I get the info from her then I will start figuring out my trip.

LOL.....have joked about applying for a job of "pecker checker" at the brothels.

My fiance, Bob (a/k/a "de liver") has managed to hit a cow, a deer, and an antelope on the commute to the mine where he works.  One of his co-workers has even had an eagle fly in front of the work van...did extensive damage to the radiator to say the least.

So far I have been lucky (knocking on wood) and have not hit anything out here.   Since I drive a car with a sloping front end; if I did manage to hit a 4-legged creature I am afraid that it would be sitting in the front seat with me!!!!  We  have a Triumph Spitfire that we drive sometimes in the summer; and we are always praying that we do not meet any cows while driving....unless that cow has long legs and we can drive under it

Nevada is basically considered open range land......most of the ranchers have areas fenced, or lease land from the BLM, but the cattle get out anyhow.  If  one is unlucky enough to hit the cow, they are responsible for the damages the cow did to the car and responsible to the rancher for the cost of the cow.

We own almost 2 acres and our property abuts the BLM land.....hence getting range cattle into our yard.  Usually I can walk out and start shooing them and they will leave.  A few times they have been obstinant and I have had to start pumping the BB gun up..that usually gets them going some.  Last year nothing was working for the brahma bull though; and I was not going to try to "tangle" with him.

Wow!  So what do you do when Bob hits those four legged creatures? Where you live sounds interesting. You never know what animal may come into your yard or run into you on the road. Isn't there a law about roaming animals to make it safer for drivers there? I would let the bull have his way to and go hide! LOL!   Wanda

I think I would like living where you are, Adair!  I love animals!  I don't think I would enjoy driving at night, though!  Not only could you kill one of those poor animals, but you could get killed when you kill him!  I know it must be a nuisance when they trample or eat your shrubs or flowers.  I don't remember you saying that they do that, but I figure it comes with the territory!              Looneybird

Well, so far, Bob has been lucky and when he manages to play "TAG YOU'RE IT" with a four legged critter, he has been driving the company van; which means that the mining company gets to pay for the cow and the damages   There are no laws about roaming animals on certain areas of the state since it is listed a open range.....you are the one responsible for keeping a lookout for the critters.

Along with range cattle and such, there are also wild horse herds around but they are usually smart enough to stay away from roads and are very skitterish about vehicles.  Then there are also the coyotes....they do have a tendency to run out right in front of you....have been lucky enough not to get any of them...but had some close calls.  Guess my oddest "almost TAG" was with a mountain lion one morning (about 5:00 a.m. on my way to Reno and he was walking along the side of the interstate).

You are very correct about that looneybird...hitting a big animal can kill you also.  I drive a Chrysler Sebring, and it has a sloping front end;  I can just picture how a cow would slide up the hood, through the windshield and onto me.....so I am quite cautious at night.  Have even been stopped twice by the police because they thought I had been imbibing!

Living out in the west is really neat though....it is a stark beauty here but it is really wonderful also.  We basically live in a valley and I have a wonderful mountain range behind me that I get to look at each morning while sipping my coffee.

If you go to the home page, then click on messages you'll see the different sections we have so far.    You can add a joke or post your favorite recipe.

Sounds like a beautiful place to live.  Do you have any roadrunners there?    I would love to live in the mountains.  I live in the Hurricane Alley of the US.  We had 3 hurricanes the year we built the house we're in now!  It got torn up all three times!  I despise it here. I wanted to build near the mountains of NC, but hubby's business is here.   Bummer!
