History

The name Algol means "demon star," (from Arabic الغول al-ghūl, "the ghoul") which was probably given due to its peculiar behavior.

In the constellation  Perseus, it represents the eye of the Gorgon Medusa

some background:

Fascinating Link, which uses moving graphics to display Algol and give some understanding as well as history of this star.:

http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr162/lect/binaries/algol.html

The strength and efficacy of the Fixed Stars is to be considered from their magnitude, their splendours, their natures or properties, their nearness to the Ecliptic, their place in the World, their multitude, their first oriental appearance, the purity of their place, the similitude or agreement of the body or rays of a Planet with them and their circle of position.

Although we do not know her time of birth for sure (I rectified it with the BML in the 8th house & in Scorpio).......see transits, that day including Jupiter over the house.
It may be that the Stellium of Pluto in Libra Saturn & Jupiter should be the 8th house too, that may work as well, putting Jupiter & the Moon transiting over the MC.

But in this chart, we see Uranus transiting over the 12th (turning the wheel might put it over the 1st, which works too), as an "unexpected event" separating her from her loved ones.....or abduction.

With Atropos transiting over the 4th house, (in this chart), this Asteroid, #273, as well as Moira #638, are both known as "death" asteroids, because Atropos, means "cutting the ties that bond", in Greek mythology.
Moira is also for death events......

The 4th (Atropos transit) puts this death at her home location......but she didn't die at home.......so I don't think the houses do fit.....Moira transiting in this chart over her 6th (of health).......

Besides Algol (Sun) connection she also had a very critical Juptier at 0°Libra

People talk about the "least aspected planet in the chart", but look at the "most aspected asteroid" in this chart!  It's "Karma" #3811. Ironic isn't it?

I think that since Algol is conjunct her Sun, she isn't with us any longer and probably was killed right away.

An astronomer whose name has become linked to Algol is John Goodricke, who in 1782 began the first scientific study of variable stars after having his attention caught by Algol and the way it had changed from bright to dim within a few hours.

At the age of five Goodricke had contracted scarlet fever which left him totally deaf. He learned to lip-read to pursue his education, and made his discovery of Algol when he was just 18. He communicated his interest to his cousin Edward Pigott and throughout the following winter the two men measured Algol's brightness every evening. Goodricke found that Algol's light changed every two days, 20 hours, and 45 minutes - within four minutes of the modern measure.

It was Goodricke who theorized that Algol was really two stars, a bright star and a dim star, and that the two stars orbited each other in space. It would be 100 years before Goodricke's theory on binary stars would be proved correct, but the Royal Society recognised the value of his work and awarded him Britain's highest scientific medal, the Godfrey Copley Medal. He was later admitted into the membership of the Royal Society, but died of pneumonia (said to be after contracting a cold while observing in the cold night air) before hearing the news of this, on 20th April 1786.

Both his deafness and the nature of his death are Saturn-ruled. Goodricke was born on 17th September 1764 with Saturn retrograde at 21° 35' Taurus, conjunct Algol then at 22° 53' Taurus. Algol brought him fame but it also brought him tragedy. He was only 21 years old when he died.

Dear Deb,

I saw the chart of Rolling Stone founder, Brian Jones.  He had Mars and Uranus
both conjunct Algol, both at 25 degrees Taurus.  Isn't he the Stone that died young?

The longest lasting title would definitely have to go to The Rolling Stones. While not achieving the all-out commercial success of the Fab-Four, (perhaps due to the death of their Aquuarian member) the Stones have continued rocking well into their 60’s. Mick Jagger, the vocalist, has his Mars in mid-Taurus and Ron Wood’s Venus is there as well. Brian Jones?Moon was at mid-Leo as well as Mick’s Mercury and Ron’s Pluto. Keith Richards?Venus shows itself in mid-Scorpio (it’s just as wicked as it seems y’all) as well as Ron’s Moon. While the Stones don’t have more planets in mid-fixed signs, their orbs are closer than for the Beatles. Perhaps this is why they lasted longer -even after the death of their founding member.

A very interesting study is Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Not only does Neil Young’s Scorpio Sun complete the four elements by Sun signs for the group –but it also fills in the hole in mid-Scorpio that the other three have lacking. Accordingly, Déjà Vu, their only album with Young -is considered to be the group’s best work. There’s a plethora of planets at the other mid-fixed signs; however, indicative of the group’s overall relative stature despite comparatively little studio work produced. At mid-Taurus we have Crosby’s Moon and Nash’s Mars and Saturn. At mid-Leo we have Crosby’s Sun and Mercury, Stills?Pluto, Nash’s Moon, and Young’s Pluto. At mid-Aquarius we have Nash’s Sun/Venus and Young’s Moon. 6 of 8 Lights are involved!

Morrison had enough mid-fixed energy to drive the Blue Bus anywhere he wanted. The only sign lacking was, oddly enough Scorpio, filled in by Ray Manzarek’s N. Node –reminiscent of their chance meeting on Venice beach. Ray’s Uranus also joins Jim’s Moon at mid-Taurus. John Densmore, Robby Krieger, and Jim all have Pluto in mid-Leo –as well as Jim’s N. Node. Ray’s Mercury and Sun join Jim’s Asc and S. Node in mid-Aquarius. As the first group to bring in the Nodes, it is interesting to note they are the only ones to have a modern day popular movie devoted to them thus far.

It was also noted by this astrologer that some other groups -who either didn’t last as long and/or didn’t quite have the massive popularity/commercial success of the others- were the ones lacking occupancy of the complete set of four fixed sign mid-points (e.g. The Who were missing Taurus -The Grateful Dead were missing Aquarius).

However, it was also noted that the longest lasting band of the current generation’s Grunge Rock explosion, Pearl Jam -continues this theme. Their vocalist, Eddie Vedder, has Jupiter at mid-Taurus. The rhythm guitarist, Stone Gossard, has Mercury at mid-Leo. Bassist Jeff Ament anchors the group with his Saturn at mid-Aquarius. All four band members, including lead guitarist Mike McCready, share Neptune at mid-Scorpio -the same position as the Sun of Neil Young -the "godfather of grunge"!  The band has served as a catalyst for independent thought, from their boycott of Ticketmaster to support for a third political party and for important literary works. The bands 1998 release “Yield?was inspired by Daniel Quinn’s novel Ishmael.

Good Charts - Some of them I hadn't heard of the groups.

    of course I know the Stones & C S N & Y, but the others, I don't think I know them.

It's interesting how Brian had 3 planets conj. Algol- I wonder how he died?
Whereas Mick Jagger had the Moon at 23TAU....it fiugres.....he's wierd I hear, but yet still good to his ex wives (from what i heard, Bianca Jagger is still a friend.

It's a shame that Paul McCartney isn't nicer to his ex.......

She supposedly is representing her own self in court because she cannot afford the 1Million dollars the lawyers want for her case, "up front", and Paul (Sir? LOL), hasn't fronted her a penny (is what I hear)

Sure is different in America, the judge would FORCE the man to cough up the  money for the wife's lawyers too.

Sir Paul has over a BILLION Dollars, (who knows how much gold in England?)......

What a scoundrel and cheap SOB he is, IMO.

Attachment to money to this extent is greedy and not worth it, IMO.

But then again, I hear she wants more then the $50Million he offered her on the table.

Just awful what money will do to people, all around.

At around midnight on 3 July 1969, Jones was discovered motionless at the bottom of his swimming pool at his home in Hartfield, Sussex, England. His girlfriend, Anna Wohlim is convinced he was alive when they took him out, insisting he still had a pulse. However, when the doctors arrived, it was too late and he was pronounced dead. The coroner's report stated "Death by misadventure", and noted his liver and heart were heavily enlarged by drug and alcohol abuse.

Some felt it was suicide, however, blaming Jagger and Richards for his state of mental depression.

Brian Jones also has a "body in the ditch" degree at 9 Pisces. Ditch/swimming pool sort of similar

Yes, hard to see the sun there at 9PISCES, certainly a degree of much misfortune, even the Sabian Symbol (which I don't  use at all, too iffy for me, about an old woman who sits in the SanDiego Park, while Mark Edmund Jones, claims, she "sees things" and is a Psychic of sorts.......and by using flash cards, he and she came up   with the "Sabian Symbols" of 360 deg.of the zodiac.
(I'm still out on that one!!.............

BUT, I did find it interesting that the Sabian Symbol of 9PISCES, a degree called a fated deg.of Suffering; is "Self Quickening" for the Sabian degree.

    Wierd huh?

...................9Virgo, I think is called the "Body in the Ditch Degree" oftentimes, can be found as a fatal degree.....
because I think it's lore of this degree is connected to the Fixed Star "Zosma".....having such a reputation.

    HI Deb.

Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead, Jim Morrison from the Doors, and
that Eddie Vedder is a young guy from Pearl Jam, a band of the younger generation,
    not ours.

Brian Jones founded the band, but was thrown out, and got depressed, and drowned, it seems.

Jerry Garica, had "lasting power".......unlike some others, and his band the Grateful Dead, my oldest daughter use to go to a few of hte concerts with her then, B.F. (a Deadhead) fan.(a Pisces of course   I remember, her driving home one night all upset because she said the police harrassed her on the Baltimore Freeway, asking if she had any drugs in her car?.......She's a really conversative type of Cancer Sun,Virgo Moon, popular young woman, but not at all the drugee type.
I told her it was her "Deadhead" Sticker, of the Grateful Dead on her Bumper that causes cops to act this way and she can expect that as long as she kept that damned sticker on her car!........

I have only one sister, (an ex hippie who is STILL hippish.....)in Tucson Az. a Professor at ASU. Her (now) husband, is a Jerry Garcia Look-alike, the entire 9 yards..

He sells hot dogs in his own hot dog cart in front of the Courthouse, a mainstay there, and makes a fortune on those damned hot dogs.
PLUS he makes his own artsy, fartsy type of hanging, Bells (Wind Chimes with cactus from the desert , and copper) and sells this stuff at Fairs and in upscale stores in Sedona.

other then this, I'm not into the Deadheads myself.....
But I KNOW they did have staying power until Garcia dropped dead .

Jim Morrison, (before my time), i.e. Woodstock right?
    buried in France I hear..

Jim Morrison, (b. "James Douglas Morrison" December 8, 1943 - July 3, 1971), was lead singer of the popular rock band The Doors. He was also a poet of some gifts. He was married to Pamela Courson Morrison

The son of a strict military officer (an admiaral in the US Navy) of no noticeable musical gifts, Morrison would seem an unlikely rock star. His voice had some of the stern power of a preacher. He was a seeker, always interested in exploring new avenues and new sensations. (The name "The Doors" came from an Aldous Huxley story, The Doors of Perception). Partly due to the influence of Huxley, Morrison consumed a lot of drugs, and drank a lot of alcohol nearly daily. His shamanistic live performances have influenced others, including Patti Smith as has his hedonistic lifestyle.

Jim Morrison died in Paris only 27 years old. He is buried at the Pere Lachaise cemetery. As always occurs when a handsome young man dies in his 20's, many of his fans had great trouble believing he was dead, and strange rumors still circulate about what "really happened." Each year, many fans gather at the cemetery to mark the anniversary of Morrison's death.

Note that Brian Jones had Neptune in 29 degrees of Virgo, not only in a detriment
by sign, but also in a critical degree, and conj. Black Hole Adonis, at 0 Libra,
the largest Black Hole in the sky.  So it fits--he "went into a black hole--the hole
of death" -by water--Neptune.  And not only water, but drugs, also ruled by Neptune.

Note that the Pearl Harbor bombing chart had Saturn and Uranus conjunct Algol in Taurus, and Neptune at 29 Virgo, conjunct Black Hole Adonis.  Dec. 7, l941,
    7 am, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
