StopToSayHiBtrfly.gif picture by patsgarden55  Good morning group - A bright sunny day greeted me upon waking.  How nice is that?  Looks like a good day for taking Cate home.

Jim has had his second night of work now and is feeling it.  He creamed his feet and tended to his many little war wounds.  One of these being a good scrape at the top of his head where he came up from stocking a lower shelf and bumped the edge of it.  It actually broke the skin.  (Poor baby)

I am hoping we get a few more good days this week.  Tomorrow is the drive north to Orillia for mom's appointment and then Thursday should be free so I'm planning on getting the lawns cut.  They grew a lot while we were away and look like they are taking very well.

Cate, mom and I did a lot of shopping yesterday.  We must have hit at least 5 different stores.  I was pretty weary by the time we got back home. So today the only plans are driving Cate home and then hopefully relaxing for the rest of the day.

I did a MSCONFIG thing on my computer yesterday that someone mentioned for a speedier response on start up.  Sorry, I can't recall who it was just now without reading back through the posts.  Anyway, it did speed things up but I later discovered that by doing it, it stopped some automatics that I need!  I had to restart some of my virus scans and protections for one.  They must be allowed to automatically do their job on a daily basis. Anyone else who did this, be warned about this and remember to reset them to run again.

So have a great day all and keep safe.

PAT

Marsha: Jim did buy a pair of work boots with steel toes as was required by Walmart.  He bought very good inserts for them too.  He says his feet just need to toughen up and get used to it.

I'll bet that poor woman who fell asleep was really embarrased!  Thankfully no real harm was done.

Grammit:  Good luck to Connie today!  I'm sure she will be glad when it's all done and healed properly.  Jim has one of those bunion things on the side of his right foot by the large toe.  It sticks out quite aways and someday he may have to have it surgically removed.  I supposed that's part of his problem now until he gets his new boots broke in enough to accomodate this area.

You make your home sound like a well run ship! I'm glad to hear that Chester is home again.  I sure hope he and Bud are feeling better. I know you are trying to take care of yourself too and you are the most important one to me. Try not to wear yourself right out my friend!

Good morning everyone!  We can definitely feel that touch of Fall in the air this morning! It's just 54, but it feels so nice! The weatherman is saying that it'll be like this for the next several days. I can sure live with that!

Not much going on here today. I'll just be picking up a few things and the usual housework.

Grammit - How's Connie doing this morning? Did she have both feet taken care of?
How's Chester? I sure hope he's feeling lots better. Everyone is in my prayers.
When I was a kid, we'd go to the apple orchards and get bushels of apples. My Mom and my Grandma would be cutting up apples and freezing them. Seemed like they'd work on that for days! But, we always had some yummy apple crisp during the winter. They'd make applesauce and apple butter, too. I'd love to get my hands on some of those apples!

Pat - Michael has to wear those steel toed boots, too. And, because he's outside most of the time, and in water, his feet tend to get wet and stay wet until he gets home. He always takes a change of socks with him, but then it seems like he'll get them wet, too. We've got some creams to put on his feet so he doesn't develop athlete's foot. I hope Jim's feet get better. Seems like when your feet hurt, you hurt all over.

Better get going. You all have a wonderful day!
Hugs, Marsha

Another gorgeous sunny day!  Gotta love it......

Mom's appointment is at 12:30 pm so we will be leaving around 11:30 am.  Should be a nice drive. This is the last commitment for this week so I expect to be free to get some of my own stuff done.

Every time I stay in a motel where there is nothing but what you actually need around, I come back home and start looking at all the junk sitting around in my house.  That always gets me wanting to go on a cleaning spree and disposing of tons of stuff.  (lol)  We all seem to have way more stuff around than is really necessary.  I have a couple of boxes up here in my living room and have already been putting more stuff into them for disposal.  Not that I want the place to look spartan exactly, just less cluttered.

This first photo is a small deck built on the side of the cabin/cottage that we stayed in.  It is all screened and was set up as a smoking area for Jim and I as they didn't want us to smoke inside the cabin itself.  Very thoughtful of them!

PEI-2008006.jpg image by patsgarden55        The rest are pics from inside the cottage.....

PEI-2008007.jpg image by patsgarden55              PEI-2008008.jpg image by patsgarden55

PEI-2008009.jpg image by patsgarden55              PEI-2008010.jpg image by patsgarden55

PEI-2008011.jpg image by patsgarden55        They had the kitchen very well supplied with plates, cups, glasses, silverware, toaster, microwave, etc.  There was also satelite TV and a DVD player.  All we needed was our personal effects and food.

The cabin was surrounded by trees and was very isolated, but with open spaces and company a mere minute walk away if desired.  We mostly treated the place as a retreat though and spent most of our time alone and going out for site-seeing. It was therefore a very relaxing holiday - exactly what we both needed.

When we got home, we were immediately thrust into our normal busy lives again.  Jim had to 'gear up' mentally to return to work and I was once more the person that took care of needs for everyone and driver for appointments and such.  Not really so bad I guess.......

I hope you are all having a good week?  Here it is Wednesday already and soon it will be another weekend.  Life goes on right?  Take care all.

PAT

Marsha:  Jim is planning to get another pair of safety shoes.  The ones he bought were boots and he is taking your suggestion to try the shoes too.  He will also get the insert soles - good ones.  When he got home this morning he said he was going to try to stick it out at Walmart for awhile and see how it goes.  He has gained a new appreciation for the people who work behind the scenes at super stores like this.

Good morning!  It's another beautifully cool morning. All the kitties are outside running and playing. They're so much fun to watch!  Otherwise, there's really not much going on here. I do have to get some laundry done today. Thankfully, it's nice and cool.

Pat - I hope the shoes make it a little easier on Jim's feet. I went to a sporting goods store to get the inner soles - spent nearly $30 for them, but they sure were worth it! That's what we do for Michael, too. Unfortunately he absolutely has to wear boots because he has to deal with chemicals at times. I think that alot of people should see what the people do who work behind the scenes at these stores. Monica worked at Wal-Mart for quite a while before she went to nursing school, and I saw what she went through. It really is a tough job!
The cottage looks so nice! I could stay somewhere like that and use it for a get-away. The peace and quiet of being out in the country!

I'm going to go and get the laundry gathered up so I can get down to the laundry room as soon as the sun comes up. You all have a great day!
Hugs, Marsha

I'm free today!!!  (so far anyway)  No demands on my time for a change.  So long as my energy holds out, I have plans of my own to take care of.  The major one is to get the lawns cut and that will take some time.  I have 5 bushes to plant and I'm hoping there is still enough time in the season for them to root well before the cold weather comes.

Last night I put on a big pot of navy beans to soak and today I will be draining them and starting my Pork and Beans cooking. I'm using the broth that Tara gave me from boiling her pork roast for the base. I remembered to buy molasses yesterday too.  Everything else I think I already have.  My house will smell yummy this afternoon.

Jim doesn't have to work tonight or tomorrow night so I have dug out the foot soaker and will give him a treatment after soaking to ease his feet so he can at least enjoy his time off.  I am using some of my aromatherapy oils in the soak - sweet orange, lavender and peppermint and I have a wonderful sloughing creme for a massage afterwards. That should fix him up!  Humm...  That sounds so good that I might do myself today too!  (lol)

Mom's appointment yesterday went very well and she now only has to see this doctor every 6 months.  There is absolutely no sign anywhere of the melanoma re-occuring.  No guarentees but it looks like she just may have beat this thing!

So wishing everyone a great Thursday!  Take care all.

PAT

Marsha - Those kitties sound so cute!  I'm glad they seemed to have escaped most of the wrath of IKE.  I told Jim about the Sporting Goods store and he thinks he may check it out.  Thanks!

Hi everyone.....
Just a few minutes here today.  Connie had both feet done.  The nurses were asking if she was stupid, or just very brave!!  The day we came home she was pretty good.......then her feet woke up...!!!  We are keeping them up.  If they are down very long the pain gets worse.  She can't keep anything down, either.  And is in quite a lot of pain.  Hope she will improve as the week goes along.
Bud had to have some laxative this morning, so you know what my afternoon will be like...lol...
Chester should probably still be in the hospital, but is doing a bit better.  He sleeps most of the afternoon, tho, and I am glad he is home.
Open house at the high school last night for Billy.  I was running from one room to the next every 15 min for two hours!!  Tuckered out by the time I fell into bed at 10 last night!
Also have to go down and let Lilly dog out twice a day and feed the cats....Connie has two of them.  So I am really getting a work out.  I have the same "cold" that everyone else here has. ...  not helping things for me...lol..but mostly I haven't had time to totally give in to it.......yet...lol...
Pat, that cabin looks like just the spot I need to go just now!!!!  I'm sure you and Jim really enjoyed it!
Kathy.....hope you are feeling better, too.  Are you getting the freeze in your area tonight, Kathy??  It's going down to 36 or 38 tonight, so I guess that's the end of the flowers.  I have a few covered.....hoping....My yellow roses are blooming again.  Gee, it seems like spring was just here, and now it is the end of the season already........where did THAT go???????
Got to run.......will try to get back in again tomorrow.
Love and good wishes to everyone....
Grammit

Well my day off didn't exactly go as planned - what a surprise!  I spent the morning doing my groups and FaceBook while Jim went for his monthly foot appointment.  Before I was even done, he called and invited me out for brunch.  Hummm...Cut the lawn?....Brunch?...Cut the lawn?......

I went for brunch!  We ate at place called Cora's which serves at least half fruit with anything you order.  I had their special which was eggs (over easy) bacon, a sausage, a slice of ham on a crepe and of course covered with all kinds of fresh fruit.  It was pretty good.

By the time we got home, we were both well fed and happy.  We went to our computers to finish up and both promptly fell asleep in our chairs!!  That was not the plan!  I woke up at 5:45 pm!!!  I couldn't believe I had slept all that time.  Jim had woke up earlier and moved into his lazy boy chair and was sleeping again.  So much for cutting the lawns.

I got up (a little stiff) and started draining the beans.  I got out my pork broth and removed the fat and started the beans cooking.  I had a lot more of the broth left so I figured I might as well make some cabbage soup too.  The smell of the cut onions woke Jim up right away!  (lol)

Meantime, I stripped Cate's room down, made our bed and finally got around to finishing the unpacking from our trip. (haha)  Tomorrow is garbage day so I collected all the little waste baskets and got them bagged to go.  I decided to cook the rest of the cabbage and send it down to mom.

That got me cleaning out my fridge of the little bits and pieces for the soup.  Digging around for my favourite wooden spoon got me going through utensils and I pulled quite a few of them that I no longer use and put them in the 'get rid of' box. A bit of rearranging and a good scrub of my counters finished the job.

The kitchen smells wonderful!  The Pork and Beans are now simmering away with all the ingredients together and the soup smells great too!  I have a sink full of plastic containers soaking to wash up.  I do them by hand because they tend to flip over in the dishwasher and sit there filled with dirty water.  (Yuck)

It's just after 10 pm now and Jim is still asleep!  Must be nice eh?  (lol)  I'm going to finish up in the kitchen and call it a day I guess.  The rest of the evening is play time on my computer.

Sleep well everyone with angels on your pillows.

Good morning Nesters!  It's wonderfully cool outside, and promises to be a beautiful day. I don't have a lot planned - just the usual.

Pat - I was telling Michael how you were looking around your house and decided that the clutter had to go. So, he started looking around here, and said that maybe we should do the same thing. There are alot of things here that we don't want to get rid of - just put it somewhere else. So, we're going to get a small storage unit and put alot of things there, and then throw away a whole lot of junk that's just been accumulating.
I'm so glad your Mom's check-up went so well! I'm sure it made her feel a whole lot better.
I would have opted for brunch, too! LOL! Sounds yummy! There's a new Mexican restaurant here in town, and Michael was talking about checking it out this weekend. Whenever we go by, there's always lots of people in there.

Grammit - I hope Connie gets to feeling better. I can't imagine how much pain she must be in. My prayers are with her.
Monica went to an open house at Kyle's school the other evening. He's not doing too well. So, she set up extra tutoring for him. His teachers were telling her that Kyle likes to goof-off too much. Believe me! She's really cracking down on him!
I think everyone has this "cold". Once you get it, it doesn't seem to want to go away. I think I'll make a point of getting a flu shot this year!
How's Chester feeling? Sleep is the best thing for him. When I had pneumonia, I slept alot!

I better get going so I can get things done this morning. You all have a wonderful day!
Hugs, Marsha

HELLO Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you all miss me? LOL. Well, On Sunday eve. the14th. IKE came thru here like a........hmmm..HURRICANE!!!!!!!!! HE blew so hard he knocked down trees , electric poles, lines and cable lines!!! I thought our house would blow apart. I have never been so scared!!!  I just kept praying. The walls were swaying.. The roof was creaking. How anyone could of stayed in Texas while worse than that was going on - is beyond me. I mean the Texas part that got hit !! It was just terrifying for over 2 hours. A man drowned in the lake, he was in a boat and it capsized. 2 others got out. So we just got got our electric  and cable restored today! I thank GOD that we didnt get hurt, Bill went outside and ran down the road to see what was going on, I was so worried he would blow away! A tree fell on a truck down the street, too.
I have read all your posts and I am glad to see that everyone else made it thru and that you all are doing reasonably well!  You all are very busy lately! I haven't got much done without having elec.
Went to the dr. yesterday and I have a bladder infection and  he is going get my leg x-rayed to see what's going on there. My toe is still swelled up and sore. Not like it was but sore. Tracy is taking to Pa. tomorrow , I don't know how I will handle that. Truthfully I don';t want to go, but I guess I am going.. lol.
Well you all take care, I might not be tomorrow since it will be late when we get home!! LUV YA ALL.......... Kathy

Good morning everyone!  Just stopping in for a minute. We've got a few things to get done this morning. We've got a truckload of cans sitting outside. Andrew is supposed to come over later with his pick-up so we can take them all off at once. Hopefully, he'll be over fairly early, so we'll have plenty of time to get our other things done.

Kathy - I was really getting worried about you! I'm glad you all are okay. I didn't realize that you all had gotten hit that hard.
Take care of yourselves!

Better go get dressed so we can get moving. You all have a great day!

Hello everyone!  I didn't get in yesterday because I was busy, busy!  I not only got the front lawn cut but also both sides of the house and the back yard!  Boy was I tired by the time I finished all that!

It was the first major cut of the new lawn out front and I swear it must have been 7" tall!  I had to use the collector bag on the mower and I could only do 3 rows at a time before it needed to be emptied.  It sure took a long time, but it looks great - just like a thick carpet!

My flowers are blooming all over the place too, especially the wave petunias.  They are growing right across my front steps and out into the lawn!  I had to bend them back into the raised gardens so I could mow along the edges. I understand that they will last right through the first frost.  There are very few flowers in anyone else's yards now and everyone who walks by comments on them.  Makes me feel so good!  Our lawn looked so bad for a long time and I was always embarrased about it.

I bought some Weed 'n Feed yesterday and Jim is spreading it in the back yard this morning.  The weeds out there are very persistant and I even have a few wild mushrooms growing in a few places!

Our worker (Cam) just showed up and he and Jim will be discussing the fish pond today.  The other worker wants to build a waterfall out there and the pond needs a new tarp and some expanding this Fall.  The earthen shelves underneath tend to collapse after a couple of years and my water plants in pots keep trying to tip over.  They are getting huge!  The fish are getting pretty big too!  They weathered last Winter very well and hopefully will do so again this year.

This morning dawned bright and clear and the threat of a thunderstorm has fallen by the wayside.  I am working on my laundry this morning and started my morning with a long hot shower.  I had bits of grass and whatever all over me from yesterday but was just too tired to shower last night.

Jim and I chatted over our tea about what we plan to do with the inside of the house now.  This will be done over the colder months.  We have pretty much run out of funds for right now so we get a break for a month or two.  I continue to box things that I no longer want and have even had a few people taking things out of the box when they come over already!  (Yeah!!!)  That's an easy way to do it.

Jim and I had an easy frozen supper last night.  I had made a simple combo of rice/ground beef/peas/gravy and froze it for Cate and mom but they never got around to having it while we were away.  So that made a simple dinner for Jim and I instead.  Hamburger really is Jim's favourite meat of all time.  (lol)

I thought I would take mom out to look at some of the garage sales this morning, just to get her out of the house for a couple of hours.  Hopefully I won't see anything that tempts me to buy and bring home!  (lol)

So have a great weekend everyone!  Its the last weekend of the Summer as Autumn starts on Monday.  Time just keeps passing by doesn't it?

PAT

Kathy - So glad you are safe and sound!  That must have been so scary!  Now if you can just get fixed up medically too..........

Hi all    Just a note to ask if any one saw the Today show with the golden and the white tiger cubs??  This marvelous zoo is only about 20 minutes from Independence.  They were really  in trouble [financial] a while back and thanks to all the publicity latly they are prospering again.  the zoo has been outside of Caney, Ks. for about 20 years. It is really a wonderful place and have all kinds of wild animals.   Just thought you would like to know! LOVE AND HUGS  Skeeter

Good morning!  It's a bit foggy this morning, but still very nice outside. All the kitties are running and playing. They're so cute to watch!

Andrew came over yesterday morning, and we loaded all the cans in his truck to take to the recycling center. So, those are out of the way. Then, had to pick up a couple of things at the store. Came home and took it easy for a while. Tanya was having a birthday party for Jessie, so we went down for that. We didn't stay too long - too many kids running around. It was just too noisy for us! LOL! Luckily, it was such a nice day that the kids were outside. We stopped at the new Mexican restaurant on our way home and had our supper. We can see now, why there's always lots of people in there! It was so good! I didn't eat all of mine, so brought it home.
Today, Michael's back to work, and I think I'll.......
Hmmmm. Don't really know, yet! LOL! I'm sure I'll think of something!

Pat - I hope you're taking it easy! LOL! You were sure busy. But, I'll bet your yard is just beautiful! Down here, most of the flowers will stop blooming during the worst heat of the summer. But, right about now, is when they'll start blooming again, so all the yards are looking pretty.
Yup! This year seems like it's just flying by!

Skeeter - I saw the Today show with the tiger cubs. They're so cute! I'm glad to know that the zoo is doing so much better now.

I guess I'll run and find something to do. You all have a wonderful day!
Hugs, Marsha

Actually its afternoon already - I slept the morning away!  (lol)  I had trouble sleeping last night and 3:30 am found me sitting at my kitchen table having a small dish of ice cream!  Like I needed that...  I felt like one of the Golden Girls!  Does anyone remember that show?  I used to love it.

Not much planned on this bright and sunny day. I did get all the laundry done up yesterday and I figured I have done enough this week already so today will be an easy one for me.  I got up when I heard Jim come in from work around 7:30 am and had a hot cup of tea with him.  I was having trouble waking up so he suggested we both go and lay down for awhile.  Well awhile turned into the whole morning for me.  (lol)

Its around 3:45 now and Jim has just gone back to bed for an hour or two.  He has to work again tonight.  I am trying to decide what to have for tonight's dinner.  Last night we had some of the home made soup in these cutest little bread bowls that I found earlier at the deli.  Something different....  So tonight will most likely be the Pork 'n Beans and a bit of salad.

Tomorrow is the monthly massage day for Jim and I and I am really looking forward to it this time!  I seem to ache everywhere.  We are planning to have lunch at the Mandarin after - yummm..  I know this all is quite an expense but its only once a month and surely we deserve it after the work that we both put in?  I used to go with Tara but since her abdominal problems, she hasn't been going.  She should be able to resume the massages soon though.  Perhaps the three of us could start going together? I would like that.  I think I'll give her a call this afternoon and see how she is doing.

I haven't even fed my fish yet today so as I'm passing through downstairs, I can check on mom and see how she is.  It's way past time for me to do some cleaning down there.  I know she can't keep up with it and most of the time she doesn't even see the dust or the smudges.  It will be so much easier when we all get a large bungalo and are actually living together. Cate included of course.  It will have to have several bedrooms that we can convert into separate sitting rooms for each of them so they still feel like they both have their own areas.  I know that we will all need our own space to retreat to sometimes when living all together becomes too much for us on some days.  I will be doing the cooking, cleaning and laundry for all of us and having a bungalo will really make those chores easier on me.

We are hoping to find or build a kind of 'U' shaped place with each of them on the side sections and Jim and I in the middle one with the large kitchen.  We plan to have separate bathrooms in each side section, bedroom, sitting room (den) and perhaps a very small kitchenette on each side too. I'm sure we will end up having it built.  I don't expect to find any house with all that I want in it already.

And that means, we must keep up with the renovations here so we can get a really good price when we are ready to sell.  There are a lot of changes we want to make here to make it more appealing to buyers.  We have already spent around $7,000 for the outside and expect to need close to $10,000 more for the inside. Ceramic tile to replace all the lanoleum, hard wood to replace all the carpet and lots of fresh paint should go a long ways towards beautifying the house.  Once we get started, we will have to confine all of our smoking to outside too.  Going to be quite a project!

Well, I guess that's it for me right now.  I hope you are all having a good weekend.  Take care and keep safe.

Hello everyone! Well I am back from Pa. and we had a great time! We stopped at Punxautawney Pa. and saw Punxautawney Phil! The Groundhog.. But actually there were  2 groundhogs in the little "zoo" (they called it a zoo) . Then we went on to visit some cousins of mine , and on to the graveyard where my parents are buried. I put some flowers on them and my brother's and my MOM's first husband's graves.  So then we came back to Punxautawney and had lunch at the one and only Hotel in town. It is very old and we really enjoyed that.
So today  Bill and I have just taken it easy. I did 2 loads of laundry and thats it!   Tomorrow is back to normal and I will be on the group everyday. I will have Miss Caity , too.
We had a beautiful sunny day here around 80. Just about perfect!
Well everyone you all take care, and I will post tomorrow as usual! Luv ya, Kathy
