Tonight is the night
When dead leaves fly
Like witches on switches
across the sky.
When elf and sprite flit
Through the night on a moony sheen.

Tonight is the night
When leaves make a sound
Like a gnome in his home under the ground.
When spooks and trolls
creep out of the holes,
all mossy and green.

Tonight is the night
When pumpkins stare
Through sheaves and leaves everywhere.
When ghoul and ghost and goblin
host dance round their Queen.
IT'S HALLOWEEN!!!

Good morning!  It's quite a bit warmer than it was yesterday at this time. Right now, it's 43. I imagine it'll go down a degree or two before sunrise. It's supposed to reach 75 this afternoon. I think it got up to 72 yesterday. It was so nice! We haven't had to turn on the heat or air. The electric bill should be cheaper next month!

I don't have much planned for today. I do need to start going through some recipes so I can decide what to put in the kids Christmas goodie boxes. I've usually got it started by now - just slow this year. Must be getting old. NOT! LOL!

Grammit - Can I put in my breakfast order too?  I could go for the cream of wheat. Love that stuff.
I sure hope you'll take some pictures of Poot! It just doesn't seem like he's old enough for all that. My goodness, how time flies!
We were watching the weather channel this morning, and saw the snow that you might be getting. It's a bit early, isn't it? Keep warm and stay safe!

Pat - I snagged your little mouse tag. It's so cute!
I'll bet your Mom does get lonely. Spending time with her was probably the best thing you could do.
I don't mind doing this for our Nest! I just want us all to be able to stay together. I sent Val an email right after I knew definitely that the groups were going to close. I haven't heard a word from her. So, I've taken it upon myself to do what needs to be done. I don't want this group to just disappear in Feb. My best friends are here!

Kathy - I'm so glad Caity is feeling better! Like you, I'd rather see them active and playing than just laying around.
I know you all are going to love the new site. It really isn't hard to get around in. Everything is right there for you to see - kind of like it is here. In fact, yesterday when I was working on it, I ran into a snag, and found that they had special instructions for MSN users! LOL! That sure helped! With those instructions, I've got it now!

I'm going to go and find some breakfast. You all have a great day!
Hugs, Marsha

Good morning folks - Hump Day - Wednesday!  I'd like to be a hump under my covers on the bed about now.  (lol) Bright and sunny and hopefully enough to get rid of this bit of snow that snuck in during the night.

Have to take mom for her appointment at 11 am and then it's off to Walmart to pick up prescriptions for both of us.

Did not get back into kitchen cupboards yesterday as planned.  Just didn't feel like doing that.  Spent most of the day playing on the computer instead.  Nice to just take the day off.

Don't see much in the way of Halloween decorations around our neighbourhood.  I have small pumpkins on each of my front steps and several more still in the house.  One of them started to turn yesterday so I threw it out.  I guess I'd better get the rest of them outside too.  They seem to prefer being in the cold.  I have my 'goodies' all bagged thanks to Tara so I'm ready for the little trick 'n treaters.  I think I have 70 baggies made up and a bowl of odds and ends if the bags run out.  Jim took my large swing down off the deck the other day and set it up again just inside the garage door.  That's where I'll be on Friday evening - at least partially protected from the cold.

Then in a day or two comes the chore of cooking all these pumpkins and getting them pureed for future use.  I still have some in my freezer from last year!  Better get them used up first.  I had so many last year that it took me literally days to get them all done up.

So that's where I'm at.  Have a great day all and keep warm and safe.

PAT

Hello everyone, how is your Wed. going? Mine has been good so far, I got some things cleaned up around here and scrubbed the bathroom and kitchen and ran the sweeper. - Well we woke up to SNOW too. It was a light coating at first then we got about an inch total and by 1 p.m. it was gone. WE had some big snow flurries tho and it was pretty but way too early for this! I went out to the store and the roads were just wet and sloppy. Nothing icy.  So lets hope this goes away for at least  3 or 4 more weeks. It can wait til at least DEC. too snow again around here. lol..

Grammit - Hope your snow is about gone too, just too early..         Sorry to hear about Nicky's leg. I have a spot like that too, and after 3 anitbiotics the dr. still doesn't know what it is. He wants me to go to a dermatoligist and maybe have a biopsy of it. I as still waiting for his office to make the app. for me , tho. The spot gets hot and really red all the time. Let me know what they say about Nick's..

Marsha - - Glad your weather is warming up. We are not warm at all, maybe 34.  Thanks again for working on keeping us all a group.

Pat - - - Glad you took some relax time for yourself, heaven knows you deserve it.  Don't over do it today either!!!

Well, take care all......... Hope you have a wonderful night... Hugs , Kathy

Good morning!  the weather has been just gorgeous the last few days. Cool in the mornings, and into the 70's in the afternoons. I wish all of you could be here to enjoy it with me.
I was out on the porch yesterday afternoon playing with the kitties, and watching them run and chase each other. They're so much fun to watch.
I'm not sure what I'm doing later on today, but I'll go with whatever comes along. LOL!

Grammit - Yup! We were probably posting at the same time.
I hope Nick's knee gets better. It must be very painful.

Pat - I may do that today and just play around. I've got several new tuts for PSP that I want to do and just haven't gotten to them yet.
I haven't bought any pumpkins this year. Maybe I'll get one this weekend so I can make some pies and some bread.

Kathy - I've been listening to the weather channel and hearing of all the areas that have snow. It just seems awfully early. I sure hope that it isn't an omen for the winter!

I'll see you all tomorrow!  Hugs, Marsha

Hello everyone......... It has been a long day today.. Caity did not take a nap and that just gets to me. I so look forward to her naps... lol.. I did make a big pot of Vegetable Beef  Soup.. It was really good! But Caity is at the point she wants to see everything you are doing and so it was kinda hard to cook and try to hold her up to see what I had just put in the pot.. She says "Older" then she can cook too is what she means.. She fell asleep about 5 min, before her dad and Tom came after her, so they sat there for awhile and let her sleep. I was doing up my dishes at that point. They decided to take her and go home I guess cause they left..

Marsha - your weather sounds really nice wish we had that.. It was in the 40's today, tomorrow they say 60 but I am not holding my breath til it reaches it. Don't work too hard .. Take care..

Hey to everyone I missed .. I am sure some of you are very busy . Take care and have a great night, Kathy

Good evening everyone - I'm really late posting today.  Had a pretty busy day again.  This morning Jim and I went out to do a bit of shopping for mom and to take her winter coat in to the cleaners. After we got it all put away, we had some lunch and then headed out again.

This time we went to Rona's to check out some small fireplaces that they had on sale.  They are actually electric heaters but they have a small mantel and are made to look like fireplaces.  There was one in particular that mom liked but it was the only one in the store - just the display model.  The salesclerk was willing to let us take it and I immediately asked what kind of discount mom was getting for it being a floor model instead of brand new.  (lol)  Jim is always embarrased when I get going on discounts.

The woman said mom could have 10% off but she would have to get clearance from her manager first.  I told her to tell her manager that mom just turned 86 too.  (haha)  Jim just shook his head.  When the woman got back, she had a slip that gave mom $50 off the price!!  Great eh?

We got it home and all set up and it really looks good in her place.  Right away I turned our main furnace down.  It has been so hot up here trying to keep the downstairs warm enough.  What a relief this will be.

Then Jim talked me into having a nap.  My nap turned into 3 and a half hours!!  I finally got up and started supper.  Shake 'n Bake boneless pork chops, flavoured noodles and cooked carrots.  Not bad.

So I am satisfied with my day.  I'll spend my evening on the computer most likely, catching up on groups and games.  I hope you all had a good day today.  I thought I would use some of my newer backgrounds that I made up.  Don't know yet if I will be able to save any of them after the group move.  I can always make more. Take care all.  Keep warm and safe.

PAT

Good morning! Happy Halloween! It's going to be warm. Temps are supposed to reach 80! I love Fall, but all the up and down temps can make people sick. It's 60 right now, but rather breezy.

Thank you for your input! You helped more than you know. I'm going to merge Empty Nesters and New Outlook. After all - most of us are members in both groups. It's okay with Alyce. Val still hasn't gotten back to me, so I'm just going to go ahead with it. Kathy & Ed - I know you aren't members at New Outlook, but it's pretty much the same as here. The name of our new group is "Empty Nesters with New Outlooks".

Kathy - I always looked forward to the kids naps, too. That was when I could really get stuff done. Both of them would want to see what I was cooking, so I'd pull a chair up where they could see. That way, I didn't have to try to hold them and cook, too! LOL!

Pat - I think we're going to have to learn to do backgrounds differently. Not sure how, but that can come later.
Wow! Your Mom got a great deal on the fireplace! Now, you and Jim can be a bit cooler. We ended up having to turn the air conditioner back on! I was hoping we wouldn't have to, but it got so hot in here yesterday afternoon.
Whenever Michael talks me into a nap, it always turns into 3 hours or more! LOL! I think of it this way: we wouldn't sleep that long if we didn't need it. Right?

I better get going. You all have a great day!
Hugs, Marsha

Good morning everyone!  What a beautiful sunny day!  It's even a bit warmer for the kiddies tonight. Jim and I will be heading out to Walmart in awhile to pick up something different for the trick or treat infants that come a'knocking.  I don't like to give them candy or chocolate so I always find something else just for them.  This year it will most likely be juice boxes.  They are not too expensive and will be much healthier for the babies.

Jim was also saying that I should renew my membership at Cosco.  It costs me $50 to do that but it lasts for an entire year.  They always have great Christmas ideas there at very good prices, so I will probably do that today too.

Today being Friday, our garbage and recycling are already out and most of the laundry has been collected.  I just have to get mom's stuff now. We've also been chatting about what to do outside while the weather is still not too bad.  My Hibiscus plants have to be protected and some serious weeding done.  We have burlap already and have been discussing a frame to build around them first.  I suggested just covering them with an empty garbage pail for the winter.  That would keep them safe from the heavy snow.  We will decide something I'm sure.

Planning a big pot of spaghetti for tonight's dinner - haven't had that in a long time and Jim loves anything with ground beef in it. Maybe a bit of cheese/garlic bread to go with it?

So is everyone ready for the kids tonight?  Some of their costumes are just so cute.  Have a great day today and keep the kiddies safe tonight.

PAT

Marsha - I half expected a new thread for suggestions for a name for the new combined group?  Jim and I have been coming up with some pretty good ones.  (lol) But I like your choice just fine.

TRICK OR TREAT, EVERYONE!

Good evening all... Well it hasnt been too bad of a day here. Got Caity to take a nap, in fact she almost fell asleep in her lunch.. lol. So that gave me some time to do my own thing.. Bill got the leaves all chopped up today, it was nice out there. We had leftover soup for dinner, and that was about my day. Tomorrow it is grocery shopping and I was going to do Christmas shopping but our Xmas club check didnt come today, the bank said they would be mailed out this week, but.........?  I guess I will have to call them. It is about time for the goblins to start around here. I don't give out candy anymore. It has just gotten so expensive around here.

Marsha- We got into the 60's today, not bad for the trick or treaters.. And its still daylight, they start at 5 p.m to 6 p.m. It's fine with me for you to combine the groups , whatever you think is best. I'm sure it will be interesting. Can't wait to see it.. Take care.

Pat - - Your mom got a great deal on the  heater/fireplace.. I'll bet it's pretty.... Good idea to give the babies and todlers the juice boxes , much better for them than a lot of candy.. Take care.

Have a great evening everyone... my day is over and I am going to just chill out .. watch TV.. Take care, Kathy

Good morning!  Did you all have a nice Halloween? It was very warm here. We didn't have any kids come to the door. So, we thought we'd go get us an ice cream sundae, and didn't even see any kids at all who were out. I guess the door-to-door trick or treating has pretty much disappeared. (Sigh!).

We've got some running around to get done today. So, we're going to try to get it done early. That way we can just relax this afternoon.

Pat - I like your idea of asking for suggestions for a group name. I had to put in something to set up the group, and that's all I could come up with quickly. I can always change the name. Yup! I think I'll do that!
I know we don't get the really cold weather or snow that you get, but alot of people here will use garbage cans, buckets and milk jugs to cover their outside plants. Seems to work!

Kathy - I thought combining the groups would be the best thing to do. I hope you had a nice relaxing evening!

Better get myself moving! You all have a great day!
Hugs, Marsha

Well folks - it's Nov.gif picture by patsgarden55 now and the time seems to be moving swiftly.

Canadians have already had their ThanksGiving but the States' is still to come and then we rush on to Christmas.  Before we know it, we will be starting a new year!

Yes the clocks get turned back tonight. Our warm temps from yesterday have left us for a few days.  It's still nice and sunny but cold. Last night was fun.  We had around 70 kids in costume show up at our door and some of them were really cute!
GhostToT.gif image by patsgarden55
And almost every one of them said thank you and Happy Halloween to me!  Most came with parents in tow and they seem to appreciate the juice boxes for the smallest trick 'n treaters.  We had some bigger kids too and because they took the time to dress up, I handed out to them too.

The last few stragglers came around 8 pm and then I closed up shop and headed out to Tara's place.  She and Terry were going to a neighbourhood party and needed a sitter.  Normally Kyle (12) would watch the younger ones but they were all stirred up and excited about being out in their costumes, that Tara thought they would give Kyle a hard time.  Of course he was wound up too, so I said I would come over.  They got home around midnight and I headed back home to my cozy bed. A long day for sure.

Most of next week promises double digit figures for us and I plan to take advantage of the relative warmth to work outside a bit. Like closing up the cottage!  (lol)  I need to do a bit of clean up for the fish pond and get the fish settled in for the winter.

Of course I am now faced with cooking all those pumpkins that I bought and the big bag of apples too.  One of the pumpkins is just the perfect size and shape for stuffing.  I'll keep that one aside while all the others will get cut up and cooked.

I've started to get that late Fall feeling and want to do so many things before the winter locks us in. I'm already thinking of winter projects too - the garage being number one on the list.

Well, I'd best get to my other groups and then do something around here.  Have a great weekend all.  Take care and keep safe.

PAT

Good evening all. It has been a very long day here. I got up at 6 and went to town at 7:30 a.m. Got all the shopping done then come home and hauled it in the  house and then put it away and then fixed something to eat, then went back out for one more errand. Then came back and made hamburgers for dinner. And I don't mind telling you that I am just pooped and hurting. My legs are aching so bad tonight. Think I will take a pain pill and go lay down.. have a great night all..

Marsha - Halloween went off without a hitch around here, no pranks!  lol. Have a great evening!

Pat - - I've set a couple clocks back so i will remember to do the rest tomorrow.. hope  you aren't working too hard. Take care..

Have a good night all, Hugs, kathy

Good morning everyone!  I remembered to set the clocks back last night. Sure didn't want Michael to get to work at the wrong time.

We got everything done that we needed to do yesterday. We even got to Wal-Mart. They were already playing Christmas carols! I think it's still too early. Oh well! Christmas seems to come earlier and earlier. Besides that, it was sooooo crowded!

It's still warm here. Temps are supposed to be up in the 80's for most of the week, but down into the 50's at night.

Pat - You've got lots of stuff planned for the cooler weather! When it gets cooler here, I usually like to crochet. Seems that during the summer it's just too warm to work with the yarn. Maybe I can make all the grandkids an afghan for their beds. That'll keep me out of trouble! LOL!

Kathy - Sounds like you did as much running around as we did! We try to keep all our running to just one day. The price of gas may be down quite a bit, but we don't want to use any more than we have to!

I'm going to go and get my posting done. You all have a great day!
Hugs, Marsha

Ah Sunday!  The day of rest!  NOT!!  Who says that we ever get an official day of rest around here? LOL

Ok - Plans for the day..... Hmmm....Nice and sunny.....That's good......Quite chilly.....Not good......

I called Tara bright and early this morning to have her check with the two older boys for me.  Kyle (12)  Terran (10)  I wanted to 'hire' them for a few hours this afternoon.  She told them it was to work outside, not to visit and that they would be paid.  They both agreed so this afternoon is settled.

I have taken several chicken pieces out of the freezer for supper.  I will cook them in the crockpot for several hours and then cover them with left over spaghetti sauce.   Wonder how that will taste?  I like to use things up as soon as possible.

I had a wonderfully long shower first thing this morning that really made me feel a whole lot better.  I then made a nice brekkie for Jim and I, hash browns, bacon and eggs.  My tea tastes especially good and I think I'm on my fifth cup.

I am still adding things to my 'get rid of' box and have been eying more stuff.  Before I'm done, my house will be empty!  (lol) Too late in the year for a huge garage sale so I'll wait until Spring or just have a big 'free for all' right out of my garage. Either way, the stuff has got to go.

So I hope you are all having a good Sunday.  Take care and keep safe.

PAT

Kathy - Wow you had a busy day!  And where was hubby during all of this??  Didn't sound like he was helping you?

Marsha - Never did catch on to crocheting.  Mom used to make beautiful pieces and tried to show me but it seems my fingers just wouldn't work that way. All of us kids still have afghans that were made years ago.

Hello everyone! hope you all had a nice Sunday! Here, I had laundry to do, somethings that I don't want Bill to wash --He does a lot of laundry for me!--  But like my blouses and stretchy jeans, I don't put in the dryer, I  hang them up on hangers then when they are almost dry I spin them in the dryer on cool for a few minutes.  Then I cleaned up the house some, and cooked a roast and mashed potatoes and noodles, green beans and salad for dinner!  So that has been my day. Another weekend with nothing on T.V. I am getting tired of paying for cable and  can't find one thing I like on there ..  I guess I will have to tape some movies when they have the ones I like then watch them over when nothing's on!

Marsha -Glad you got all your errands run yesterday, I try to do al my running in one day too. I also love to crochet, but with Caity here, I think she would get into it and when she isnt here I have all my work to do..  It was sunny and 55 here today, not bad for us! At least it's not snow! Take care.

Pat - - Not my day of rest either!!! lol I just finished up the dishes and Hope I am done for the night, tho. It's nice the boys are going to help you out this afternoon!!  O, Bill was out visiting his buddies yesterday while I did all  that work!! LOL.. But he usually helps out some around here. Take care.

Have a great evening all, be good.. Hugs , Kathy
