I like smoked salmon, it's very tasty. I have a few friends in the Pacific Northwest, and have been the beneficiary of a few gifts of smoked salmon that they caught and smoked themselves. The commercial brand they sell at Sam's Club is quite good, but nothing beats the real thing.
Quite a few years ago, I was dating a guy who introduced me to the great outdoors and its joys (fishing, camping, shooting, and hunting). We caught some white bass at Lake Amistad and he fired up his smoker and we had a feast. Delicious. Another time, we'd caught quite a few (500+) gulf trout at Port Isabelle on the south Texas coast. He smoked some of those and they were good, but not nearly as good as the white bass we'd had.
I have never been able to bring myself to try the smoked eel.
