Shadow Song

Dark keys draw fingertips
a tear falls
chords flow.

Music streams
     rays of fading light
shadows emerge, grey subtleties.

Exhaling descant
     notes evanesce
melding shadow and substance.

Fingers collapse
     curled on tonic
fading
     dampened
            drained.

I don't really know what to say. That's why I didn't say anything....

I've not a clue how to critique poetry. I did have some [American] English Lit in college, but not poetry, so don't know how to say things about a poem that sound intelligent.

I'm not sure I truly understand this one, but I love it.  My "take" is similar to how music in a minor key (the black keys?) tends to make me sad (but in a wistful sort of way.....)  That's what this Poem evokes in me: wistfulness, and a reluctant acceptance of things that cannot be changed.....

its my belief that you dont have to "understand" a poem or a song lyric to love it. Sometimes they just touch you,  and youre never quite sure why.

This is lovely. I believe I wrote about it elsewhere... however.... the melancholy is poetically like Chopin,  Ene Etude more than any, expresses your words in notes- the Etude in f minor, I believe No. 8. In the very end, if played well, you can hear little snowflakes falling out of the clouds of grey, gently shattering their crystals against the window pane.

You are gifted in writing.

What I really enjoy, is the mileage you get from your words. So few, that say so much.

Again, that is why I compare it with Chopin, who likewise got so much from so little.
