Cary’s Chewy Brownies
1 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup melted shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
icing sugar (optional)
In a mixing bowl, stir together sugar, cocoa and flour.
Blend in melted shortening; beat in eggs and vanilla.
Stir in nuts if using.
Mixture will be very stiff.
Spread evenly in a greased 8-inch square cake pan.
Bake at 325 dF for 25 minutes or until shiny on top and
batter has pulled away slightly from edges of pan. Let cool.
Sprinkle on icing sugar if desired.
